Hi donald.
Cloudflare is for ddos attack protection.

About
no lets encrypt cert but "Google Trust Services" -- who want's that?
It's Hamza choice.

Actually, I don't like cloudflare very much either.
In my opinion, other forums are also under attack, for example it seemed to me that the tinycore forum is as well under attack considering their statistics:
444 Guests, 0 Users
Most Online Today: 661. Most Online Ever: 1771 (December 25, 2024, 07:43:14 PM)
I don't know, I think the decision is all in the hands of the forum owners, however it would be interesting to have a discussion about cloudflare which I perceive a bit as a “mafia”.

The last 2 or 3 times I have been presented with "Verifying if you are human" and then the checkbox is checked automagically and the forum page loads fine.

Of course after I am verified as human I pinch myself just to make sure.

However to be fair I search a little and I actually understand why choosing cloudflare guarantees performance that you can hardly find elsewhere and therefore with this decision you have secured access to the forum.
However, a question from a profane like me, aren't there more independent solutions? Like implementing your own captcha and putting a 100 second timer between log attempts?

And all IPs that show 50 or more attempts to login during the course of a day doesn't mean they are bots. When I can't login I retry at least a dozen time several times a day. :D

Hi beny, try this script to build ungoogled-chromium and see if it works for you.

OK,done and then "has to verify my security" which never completes so no forum
for me, (palemoon)
apparently a (well) known issue: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.ph ... &start=420
def at cloudflares end not palemoon. some effort seems to be going towards having them fix it.
it also seems very sensitive to <whatever_browsers> settings ..eg. firefox using the chameleon addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... eleon-ext/ (random user agent spoofing among other things)
fwiw, i'm not a fan of cloudflare either, nor am i expert enough to know of alternatives for ddos protections atm..

@ ncmprhnsbl

Thanks for the links.

However, I don't like being forced by Cloudflare to use a mainstream malware browser and drop my pants,
so to speak.
[Reset all standard privacy settings, JavaScript, cookies, referrer add-ons, phone home, etc.]

The Porteus forum is just that: a forum, not a business or store where one would lose money if the site is temporarily unavailable.

DDoS attacks come and go, so hiding behind Cloudflare is overkill in my opinion.
I wonder what other forums that aren't behind Cloudflare are doing.

Anyway, Thanks, guys, for letting me be part of the community for 12 years.

I agree. :happy62: Cloudflare is overkill, it shows up even for users trying to browse the forum. For users registering and/or logging in, sure but that's all that is needed. The current install needs to be refined/tweaked.
