wread wrote:With chrome you can switch to tor or not to tor with the switchy button. I wrote a post with instructions how to set up chrome for tor, but I was not logged in and the post got lost. It goes like that:
That should work with Firefox the same. You sure have to exit it, and you either start it via your standard setup folder (usually somewhere above /home/username/firefox) or via the setup that TOR uses.

I have not used tor in ages, and when I last did use it the only browser they supported was FFx. Did that change? Can you now also use Chrome? If so, chances are high you can also use Palemoon...

Sadly there is not really a torproject forum. Duck.co said http://torforum.org/ is one, but it's not official, and offline as well...
And the https://tor.stackexchange.com/ page is not working, see also here for why: http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 005#p49005
I checked the most recent version of the http://torforum.org/ via https://web.archive.org/web/20160325040 ... 5c76cad7ea and it looks like almost all the recent posts in there are spam... just what you want when running a forum for IT privacy... :twisted: :wall:

@Rava
If you want to use Chrome with tor, download the four files and put them in modules.

To use it, start vidalia (your utc setting must be ok to work) and then chrome. In chrome click the globe top right to select tor or direct connection.
To to check if it is working visit the site http://check.torproject.org

Actually, I want to use Palemoon with tor... but that should work, since PM is FFx based, and Chrome is not, and historically, TOR only used FFx...

I do not know Palemon, but if it is FF-based, it must have the posibility of connecting thruogh a proxi. If so, just take note of the necesary proxi settings and use the other three modules posted before.

What 3 modules?

You mentioned 4 files:

I am a bit confused right now...

//edit
I looked into them and it seems switchysharp is a Chrome plugin, so not needed for me. (I did not know)

So, do I get you right in presuming that all I need is libevent-2.0.22-x86_64-1 , tor-0.2.7.6-x86_64-wread and vidalia-0.2.21-x86_64-wread ?

wread, could you please confirm the md5sums before I continue:

Code: Select all

$ md5sum *xzm
cefd4e1ee1da5e5be45c17afedb0ccd9  libevent-2.0.22-x86_64-1.xzm
8cafdb2fe1cbfa429634cad52f6a3d05  tor-0.2.7.6-x86_64-wread.xzm
1ffe7a8dbd164b8493042a1b86224294  vidalia-0.2.21-x86_64-wread.xzm
Thanks.

@Rava: your md5sums are indeed ok.
Now you must find how to connect your browser using a proxy; bei FF you had to look under Edit>Preferences>Proxies or so, I remember, and then select "Socks host" 127.0.0.1, "Port" 9050 and you are done. That did what switchysharp in Chrome now does.

Good luck!

I try it but not today, too tired already.

But people really install a 32 MB module just for not having to input the proxy settings? Please tell me that it's needed for more than that, cause if not it makes the Chrome users looks like, well, toddlers. :(

It is indeed the other way around: to use Chrome you must be a little more advanced to know the necessary settings for the proxy, whereas using the ready-packaged Tor is straight up, for toddlers...

I hope you can use Tor with Palemoon as well!

Regards!
