Cloned credit cards, beware!

Hi all!
I was at a meeting of a construction project; the mobile of architect Claudia rings... "Yes, that is may card", she said, "but I am now in Santo Domingo, not in Mexico City, and I am not filling my tank with hundred dollar lead-free"......Claudia was lucky that time, the guys ran away...

Security measure #1: Don't let your card out of your sight!

Security measure#2: If somebody pass your card twice, ask why twice? Some cashiers "clean" the card rubbing it on their hose??? Show them you are aware of every unusual move. They might abandon their "job" with you as target.

Banks are changing magnetic bands for chips; chips seem to be less prone to fraud.

My solution, switch to a debit card and fill it just as needed. Anyway, thieves go rather for credit cards, not debit ones.

In France, there is another solution. You can asks your bank to give some temporary numbers which are valid only one time. This means that if you buy something with one set of numbers then it can't be used another time (e.g the website got breached).

people broke into a store and changed the card-reader
with a prepared one which copied the card-data on a flash-card

not even the employees noticed that

after a while they came back, changed the card-reader back
and went off with all the captured credit-card data.

credit-cards are always risky

This not cloning but a credit card related issue or apparent fraud:
My last month bill came out with about 300$ of billing at a rate of one charge every second day with amounts of 19.99$ and 9.99$ with the mention on the card:
GOOGLE *Supercell GOOGLE.COM/CHS 19.99 (12 mentions for december)
GOOGLE *Supercell GOOGLE.COM/CHS 9.99 (8 mentions )
GOOGLE *SHTV GOOGLE.COM/CHS 1.07 (one mention)

I never bought nothing on my cell phone except for some time of antenna for the phone.

Supercell seems to be some game available on google play, which I never used:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deve ... cell&hl=fr

SHTV is another service that I really do not recall or know about:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deve ... +Group+LLC

I entered in contact with google wallet which would explain to me that effectively none of these charges came out from my account, but rather came from another google wallet account. I ask these guys how come the other account got my credit card number. At this point they wouldn't come with a fair explanation.

However, I made contact previously with VISA so that they stopped the hemmorrhage. They told me that they would make an inquiry and that within five days I would receive another card with a different number. This is the only way they could stop the fraud. They say that as I am covered by some type of insurance, I might not be charged.

francois,
That's the horror scenario everyone fears.
Hopefully you don't have to pay that.

Maybe someone has an old bill with your credit card number, found in the dumpster.

Will they (google) try to find out, who the owner of the other account is?

Good Luck
regards

In fact, I have the habit to shred all the files with personal information. But as I was told that it was safe to buy over the internet by my credit card company, it happens though not very often that I buy from secure sites on the internet.

Secure
