Whitelist questions.

Post#1 by enorthwood » 09 Apr 2018, 22:31

Hello,

I've read the parameters guide re: whitelist. I was wondering if there was a way to allow redirects. I am a systems tech working in a Library department. We need to create a linux based kiosk for lookups of our catalogue. However, I need redirects to be allowed. We have access to 1000s of external resources and journals and it would take me the rest of my life to whitelist them all.

Process needed:
1. Search term (from whitelisted catalogue tool)
2. Click relevant link.
3. Be allowed to reach site.

Any tips or ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated! It might be simpler at this point to create a black list...

Best Regards,
E S Northwood.

Not sure if i understand.

Normally you would add this parameter to your kiosk config:

Code: Select all

whitelist= list of whitelisted domains here
Unless you dont have those domains stored anywhere and you want to allow anything whats present on a 'X' webpage (your search catalogue tool)?

Thanks

Whitelist questions.

Hello,

Yes. I want to allow any link to be followed from the search page (catalogue). The issue with whitelisting everything is we have access to thousands of external resources.

Best Regards,
Liz Northwood.

I'm not sure if its possible to allow URLs from specific webpage unless there is addon/extension created for this purpose.

Maybe you could:

a) use firefox as the browser
b) disable address bar
c) do not enable whitelist at all?

This way users would be able to access only URLs generated on your search page (but also any URL located on the accessed pages like facebook or twitter).
