machine compatibility

I wonder if anyone knows why any certain machine might not boot Kiosk... I have an older IBM NetVista x40 "all in one" that i would like to use as a kiosk. I can boot Webconverger without any problem, but am not a fan, so I have been trying Porteus Kiosk but with out luck.

I am not very technical when it comes to Linux so I can't guess at my problem. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

hi nick,

how did you burn the kiosk ISO? what is the last message displayed on the screen?
please try once again and use Win32-imager under Windows or 'dd' under Linux as described on the kiosk download page:
http://porteus-kiosk.org/download.html

thank you.

fanthom... thanks for replying. Actually I booted up on another PC using a CD with the porteus kiosk image and after it asks for some options it offers the option to burn install the image on a HDD. I had an HDD connected with an adapter to the USB port and allowed it to install. Then replaced the HDD in the kiosk target machine.

I thought it might be that some device setting were being mis-installed by starting on a different machine, but I also tried booting straight from the CD on the target PC and got the same result. Let me try again so i can tell you what the last visible action is.

that was smart :)

btw: it's a second case (got similar report last week) when installation ISO does not boot and post installation does.
i cant explain it as kernel and other software is exactly the same.
would be great if you could take a photo or record a video when kiosk hangs on boot.

thank you
