start and stop play from another machine

Post#1 by neuronetv » 29 Nov 2014, 21:09

I have porteus-kiosk playing a video okay in firefox. Is it possible to control the video play, pause, continue and stop from another machine? Normally one would do this using the keyboard connected to the porteus machine but I need to do it by sending a command from a linux console on another machine if it's possible. The other machine is near so It could be over com port or different connection, it doesn't necessarily have to be over ip. Thanks for any pointers.

maybe 'xdotool' utility could help you (missing in kiosk by default - you have to add it manually):

thankyou and yes I did see xdotool when I was searching on google about this but I don't know how one would add it to proteus. When I log in to the proteus machine using ssh I can't find a single command that works and I haven't been able to work out how one installs programs in proteus. Are there any docs on this?
