Hi,

I have tried your Kiosk CD/ISO. Running it from USB right now. No bugs. Everything just works.

Thanks!

Now I have tried your Kiosk Wizard too. A new ISO is created without problems but while running "my" Kiosk system from USB I could not get my Wifi to work nor could I find a way to restart or poweroff the computer. Had to use the power switch.

Wifi: I get no chance to connect manually either.

Thanks for the fast feedback.
nor could I find a way to restart or poweroff the computer. Had to use the power switch.
This is by design as the kiosk is meant to stay up. Hitting the power button is the only way to shut down.

During the kiosk wizard did you choose to download the wifi module and correctly enter the wifi connection details? There is also an option to manually enter your IP, DNS and gateway during the wizard.
How do i become super user?

hi exton,

whats your wifi card model?
please boot any linux distro (preferably porteus) and post output of 'lspci -k' command.
/var/log/dmesg uploaded to pastebin.com would also be helpful.

thanks

Poweroff/restart: Ok I understand. Now.

I installed the wifi module and gave the correct info. I'm sure.

Output of lspci -k

I will try to run my/your Kiosk system on another laptop now.

EDIT a little later...
I must have done something wrong after all. It didn't work (wifi) on my other laptop too. Everything just works normally on that one. I will run your wizard again.

No, I couldn't get the wireless connection to work. Have to use the cable.

@exton
please run the wizard once again and fill all the data as previously then when wizard finishes please go to /tmp/custom-files/porteus/base and unsquash 003-settings.xzm. now please rename /etc/rc.d/rc3.d to /etc/rc.d/rc4.d from this module and pack it back (you could use xzm2dir and dir2xzm scripts).
final step would be to run /tmp/custom-kiosk/porteus/make_iso.sh which creates /tmp/porteus-kiosk.iso.
please run 'isohybrid /tmp/porteus-kiosk.iso' to make it hybrid and burn to usb stick with dd command as previously.
hopefully will be ok now.

thanks a lot for testing and highlighting this issue.

@brokenman
please revert my 'rc4 -> rc3' change in the wizard and release a new version as this bug will affect all wifi/static IP settings.
(once again i got a lesson to not make any important changes 2 days before the release)

Cheers

Ok, thanks, but I think I will wait for the new release. One or two days or...?

Btw: Can you please tell which live scripts (Tomas M?) you used to turn Slackware 14.0 into a live system?

@exton
new wizard is ready - please download it once again.

linuxrc version used in Porteus was developed by myself.
if you want to use it then you must delete existing porteus xzm modules from /base (except for 000-kernel.xzm) and run dir2xzm on any slackware installation.
put resulting module in /porteus/base folder and you can boot your own live distro :)
look here (pclinuxOS in this example):

Hi fanthom,

Well, I downloaded from this place: http://ponce.cc/porteus/i486/testing/ki ... noarch.run

I'm sorry to say I had no luck with wifi. Same as yesterday. No wifi connection. Cable works.

Remaster Slackware 14.0: I'm not sure if I understand exactly how you mean, but I will give it a try tomorrow.

@exton
pushed updated version of the wizard:

- added more safe defaults to wpa2 config ("eapol_version=1" "ap_scan=1" "fast_reauth=1" "scan_ssid=0")
- wpa_supplicant.conf is now kept in /rootcopy folder rather than 003-settings.xzm. this module is unsquashed during each firefox restart and i guess that config update was confusing supplicant daemon (figuring it out took me a long while)

tested and works for me :)

please try when you have a chance.

I have no good news I'm afraid. Now I can't even create a new ISO-file. This is what the log (kiosk.log) shows:

./make-kiosk-dialog: line 109: trap: 255: invalid signal specification
./make-kiosk-dialog: line 140: [: -le: unary operator expected
cp: cannot stat `/mnt/kiosk/*': No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file `/tmp/custom-kiosk/porteus/base': No such file or directory
cp: cannot create regular file `/tmp/custom-kiosk/porteus/base': No such file or directory
grep: /tmp/kiosk-creator/003/etc/xdg/openbox/autostart: No such file or directory
sed: can't read /tmp/kiosk-creator/003/etc/xdg/openbox/autostart: No such file or directory
Could not create destination file: No such file or directory
./make-kiosk-dialog: line 769: ./make_iso.sh: No such file or directory
./make-kiosk-dialog: line 770: /tmp/porteus-kiosk.iso: No such file or directory
./bin/isohybrid: could not open file `/tmp/porteus-kiosk.iso': No such file or directory
./make-kiosk-dialog: line 773: /tmp/porteus-kiosk.iso: No such file or directory

I have done exactly as before. And on the same computer/Linux system. I can see that /mnt/kiosk exists. Also /tmp/custom-kiosk/porteus but not the folder /tmp/custom-kiosk/porteus/base.

Excellent work! Very useful.
