Thanks for the screensaver feedback. I hadn't thought there would be any difference when using HDMI. Ahau has passed on some info that i will check out. I have a HDMI connection i can test on.

I've tested the wizard extensively and the wifi worked on various machines. Can you give some info about the network you are connecting to? Encryption method and perhaps SSID. Does the SSID password contain special characters?
How do i become super user?

HDMI screensaver: would you mind sharing your ideas ? I'd like to assist because it's a blocking problem for my usage and I'm on a tight schedule.

wifi: The generated wpa_supplicant.conf is correct and I'm able to use it when doing a manual process on the command line.

Bug Report on V2 release version: using the Wizard to create a ISO (even with default choices using DHCP on eth0) will create a Porteus that will boot to the wallpaper and a mouse, but not open Firefox.

From which distro are you running the kiosk wizard?

I've had varying success with the commands:

Code: Select all

xset s off

xset -dpms
"xset s off" should disable the screensaver, and "xset -dpms" should disable the energy saving features (i.e. screen blanking). I hope that helps!
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!

I did stop the screen blanking by simulating mouse mouvement. It also has the advantage of hiding the cursor after a few seconds (it's for a entryless dashboard TV)
I used xdotool, which I statically compiled and then called before firefox:

su guest -c "(while true; do /home/guest/xdotool.static mousemove_relative 10 10; sleep 1; done) &"
su guest -c "firefox"

Bug report (Wizard):

I was able to get a working wifi by running the Wizard from a Porteus 2.0 32bits distro.

When running the wizard from a 64bits Ubuntu 12.10, the resulting ISO doesn't even start firefox.

hi tralabacouic,

please upload Kiosk ISO created under Ubuntu and send me PM with download link (it probably contains wifi password so better not post it to publicy) and i'll find what's wrong with it.

I think the Wizard doesn't work on Ubuntu 12.10. It does not seem to be a problem specific to the wifi package.

When I chose default answers on the wizard (no,no,no, eth0, dhcp), it creates an ISO which does not start Firefox.

Here is an example I just built with a clean /tmp on Ubuntu 12.10, no extra modules:

i have updated wizard and ISO on the server silently (without version bump).
should work on Ubuntu now (seems that for some reason Ubuntu creates directories with mask different than 755)

btw: 'i have tweaked disable screensaver' option which is also disabling acpid now. hopefully your 'mouse movement' workaround wont be necessary.
pleas check when you have a chance.

btw: brokenman is working on bringing back support for changing kdb layout through the wizard.

thanks.

Cool, it works now. Indeed, my UMASK is set which does not give read/execute permission for "others".
Thank you for taking time to correct this.

Something new happened recently (not sure if it comes from V2 final or from your new Wizard) : the homepage is not set from prefs.js ! Where is it set, now ?

EDIT: ok I found the homepage setting locked in pref("general.config.filename", ".pklock.cfg");

I have the following comments/suggestions:

1. I found that although I chose to disable the screensaver in the wizard setup, my screen still blanks after 10mins
2. It would be great if there was an option to install mscore fonts in the wizard. Many sites don't look right without the basic MS fonts.
3. Even more awesome would be if the wallpaper bitmap could also be used as a screensaver
4. An option to automate a browser respawn and clear cache after a period of inactivity would be also good.

@qbicdesign

1) please download wizard once again (it has been updated silently few times after 2.0 release) and let us know if screensaver is still operating. if yes then will go with Ahau's solution from: http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 186#p14186 for next kiosk release.
2) please remaster kiosk ISO manually and add ms fonts to 001-core.xzm/usr/share/fonts folder. if you want them to be set as default then you have to update firefox preferences in 003-settings.xzm. detailed info how to do it can be found on kiosk info/FAQ page and in kiosk feedback thread.

i'm tight on free time now but should have more in April so will have a look on last 2 items from your list.
thanks for excellent feedback.

Looks like this is working nicely now with v2.0.1
With the browser closing automatically, and with a logo as my wallpaper, it looks like I have a nice screensaver.
Screen doesn't go blank anymore.
Very cool

My next issue should be simple (but nothing ever is):
The URL I'm directing my kiosk to is essentially a flash page. I loaded flash during the kiosk wizard, but I notice that it requires users to click the "play" button before the flash content will load.
Is there any way to work around that?

@qbicdesign
good to hear that :)

i have just added an option to the wizard for disabling flashblock.
next monday will probably release 2.0.2 as Kiosk has couple of bugfixes, improvements and wizard has 3 new features:
- possibility of adding asian fonts (Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, Thai) to the ISO
- possibility of shutting down PC with Ctrl+Alt+Del (only for private use and not when Kiosk is exposed to the public)
- possibility of disabling flashblock addon

if you are impatient you can unsquash 003-settings.xzm and just delete squashfs-root/home/guest/.mozilla/firefox/c3pp43bg.default/extensions/{3d7eb24f-2740-49df-8937-200b1cc08f8a} from it and create new ISO.

Cheers
