PrimeVideo : Chrome version too old, cannot play movies

Today, I built first ISO with porteus kiosk wizard and chose chrome... all went fine on testing but:

PrimeVideo.com cannot play any movie, showing message like this : chrome version too old, you need to update chrome for player to work...

Checked user-agent online and it shows chrome v98... current chrome is of v111

Please advise... looks like need a new build for chrome module pushed for kiosk edition... v98 is quite old.

Thanks...

Hello agnivo007,

'Automatic updates' service is a proper way of resolving this problem.
Kiosk has Chrome-108.x available in the updates channel and Chrome-111.x should be added soon.

Without updates every kiosk version will get outdated pretty fast ...

Thanks

First of all, I want to mention that I had downloaded latest kiosk master iso and was building the customized one just yesterday, not some old sources for main iso...

During building the iso with the wizard, chrome package is fetched online, shouldn't it fetch the latest one available at that particular time?

Sorry, but I'm a home user and just testing stuff with the build of custom kiosk using the wizard for an old computer lying around...nothing commercial, cannot afford a paid service.

"shouldn't it fetch the latest one available at that particular time?"
Wizard will download Chrome version which is tested against certain system version. Downloading latest version could break certain functions and this is not acceptable.
For example Chrome policies changed here:
https://porteus-kiosk.org/changelog-aut ... tml#220508

and whole system had to be updated.

"I'm a home user and just testing stuff with the build of custom kiosk using the wizard for an old computer lying around...nothing commercial, cannot afford a paid service."
OK - I understand.

Unfortunately I will not be able to release new kiosk ISO every 2-3 months because some webpages claim that Chrome version is too old. We have updates service developed to cover this scenario.
If you are a private person then you should be using some other system in which you can update the browser regularly.

Thanks

Is there a manual way to sideload the newer chrome while using the wizard or other steps if necessary to counter this specific problem of mine?

Or can the created iso be modified later to replace the chrome xzm?

Also, modifying the user agent string can counter this issue, any way while building this iso?

Can you please let me know if I rebuild iso again with FF as browser, what version will be bundled ?

Lots of questions, but thanks in advance...

This is not a proper way to resolve the problem. Sooner or later these hacks will stop working and you ask for help again.

You have two options:

a) update whole kiosk system (using updates service)

b) switch to another OS

I will not recommend anything else.

Thanks

I added this later after your post... I understand your solution. Let's see, I'd have used another distro if my little project's need suited them...
