Porteus 5.0 Video in browser too fast [solved]

Post#1 by Stefan » 28 Mar 2020, 16:59

I am trying to get a kiosk running on a new type of PC, because the one we used before is no longer avail.
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B081B2GNR8/ref ... E_SCE_dp_1
Quad-Core Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Prozessor 1,44 GHz, Burst-Mode 1,92 GHz.
2 GB RAM, 32 GB SSD
The pre-installed Win10 opened my site w/o problems and played the video.

Porteus with chrome speeds up the video quite a lot, feels almost like 1.5 to 2x.
Happens also when I use a YT video.

I tried the non-standard video driver and that did not correct the speed of the playback.

Is this PC just crap, are there flags for chrome I could set?

Thanks

Porteus 5.0 Video in browser too fast

OK, seems I found a workaround…
My Screen is a TV connected via HDMI, no sound output required / wanted.
Switching over to the built-in socket seems to have done the trick (read that somewhere in some Linux forum in a related thread).
The headphones on this little pice of crap don't give out any sound, but for my use it's good now.

Also: The Wifi of this PC doesn't seem to be supported by Porteus either, maybe that helps someone who is searching for more information.

Porteus 5.0 Video in browser too fast

Stefan,

Yes - I have noticed this as well that lack of configured sound card can speed up HTML5 videos (flash video does not even start).
I'm surprised that internal sound card works - usually it requires PulseAudio on the cheapest PC models.

Wifi can be fixed through the customized build.

Thanks for sharing.

Porteus 5.0 Video in browser too fast

It displayed quite an extensive list of audio devices:
3x HDMI built in (all the same details, except the id)
1x USB audio (which upon selection confused the installer so much that I had to reboot)
1x Built in audio (which I picked and heard no sound, but it fixed my problem)
1x Built in audio (with something like deep buffer etc. in the details and some odd name. didn't try that one)

As for the Wifi: Ah, custom build… There they are again, my totally justified Linux nightmares :-)

By the way? Is there a list of out-of-the-box supported WiFi modules?
Looking at an alternative with Intel 3165 now… As the Kiosk doesn't have access to a LAN cable…

Porteus 5.0 Video in browser too fast [solved]

Post#6 by fanthom » 30 Mar 2020, 18:27

Intel wifi will work out of the box.

The only truly problematic are Broadcom SDIO chipsets as NVRAM files are conflicting between OEM versions.
Other wifi chipsets can fixed by adding firmware or compiling the drivers from 3rd party repos (mostly Realtek).

Thanks
