Porteus kiosk 5.0.0 & r8169 realtek.ko problem [Solved]

Post#1 by oscar.cervesato » 18 Mar 2020, 16:49

Hello to all,

Porteus kiosk version 5 was release with kernel version 5.4.23, but I can't boot via PXE because module r8169 seems not included in the kernel. :wall:
Here an extract from the boot log on console:

Code: Select all

[] r8169 0000:01:00.. realtek.ko not loaded, maybe it needs to be added to intramfs?
[] r8169: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -2
Any idea?

Tnks

Oscar C.

Porteus kiosk 5.0.0 & r8169 realtek.ko problem

Oscar,

1) Are you able to PXE boot this PC using 4.9.0 release?

2) I have added realtek.ko to the initrdpxe.xz so please check if that helps:
https://porteus-kiosk.org/public/5.0/initrdpxe.xz

Thanks
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

Porteus kiosk 5.0.0 & r8169 realtek.ko problem

Post#3 by oscar.cervesato » 20 Mar 2020, 07:10

Hello,

1) yes, I'm able to PXE boot using 4.9.0

2) I have updated the initrdpxe.xz file on tftp server, but it still not working:

Code: Select all

[] r8169 0000:01:00.. realtek.ko not loaded, maybe it needs to be added to intramfs?
[] r8169: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -2
...
udhcpc: ioclt 0x8933 failed: No such device

Error: Kiosk data not found - startup can not continue.
...
I'm using a DELL Wyse 3040 (it's a thin client), and booting with version 4.9.0 I can see this hw:

Code: Select all

Porteus kiosk 5.0.0 & r8169 realtek.ko problem

Post#4 by fanthom » 20 Mar 2020, 16:08

Oscar,

This issue should be fixed now.
Please download kiosk 5.0.0 again and recreate your PXE setup from scratch (changes were made to the kernel config, initrd.xz and initrdpxe.xz components).

Thanks
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.
