Tearing on latest NUC

Post#1 by thewiz » 09 Dec 2018, 09:00

Running PORTEUS KIOSK 4.7 on the latest NUC generation (e.g., BOXNUC8I5BEK2 with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655) shows clear tearing artifacts. Especially while playing video. This is typically a sign of some sort of vsync problem, or a buffer swap issue, in the graphics driver. Since this NUC model was released after the current Porteus Kiosk version (Q3'18 according to https://ark.intel.com/products/126147/I ... -NUC8i5BEK), it's possible that this could be fixed by upgradng the Intel graphics driver included with Porteus.

How would one go about upgrading this driver? Or is this something that's planned for inclusion in a newer Porteus Kiosk version within the not-too-distant future?

Your options would be:

a) compile the kernel yourself:
http://www.porteus.org/component/conten ... ernel.html

b) wait till late January for new kiosk release

c) customized build with latest kernel:
https://porteus-kiosk.org/builds.html

Sounds good. We're OK waiting for the next release. Let me know if there's any testing we can contribute on this particular hardware, where we've seen the problem.

Hello thewiz,

You could generate short debug report in the wizard on 4.7.0 release and send it to support@porteus-kiosk.org.

This way we could ensure all other hardware (especially wifi) would be supported in next kiosk.

Thanks

We sent you the debug report as requested. Did it provide the information needed? Hopefully, it's just a matter of getting updated drivers into the build. Anything we can do to test this theory?

Yes - all will be good once next kiosk version is released.
Please wait.
