Porteus on UEFI-ONLY: rock solid boot!

The real challenge is getting a USB drive that boots in all scenarios. I think BIOS and EFI covers 90% of new users which the 4 steps noted above do. As for saving changes, there's no need to create a separate partition. In Porteus you can store your changes by creating a container file I agree, an...

Porteus on UEFI-ONLY: rock solid boot!

If I'm not mistaken, a default EFI system which includes a fallback method (as Ed_P script showed above) should suffice unless you're using a NON UEFI system. My Acer Aspire One 722 is not an EFI system nor an EFI system booting in BIOS Legacy mode, it's pure BIOS based and my Porteus USB drive boo...

Grub2 question.

1)Should we have an USB disk with volume name 'porteus' and boot, porteus folders in it? or 2)a CD burnt with porteus iso Which ever is more convenient for you. Personally I use ISOs and USB drives. where is grub looking for 'porteus' disk? Where ever you tell it to look. Personally I have grub sear...

Porteus on UEFI-ONLY: rock solid boot!

But if one of them is run the USB drive will boot pretty much anywhere. BIOS or EFI. My new Porteus flash drive boots on both my systems, both 64-bit, one EFI, one non-EFI. :good:

Installing on USB

beny packages don't have to be moved to the modules folder to be present for the next boot. Copying them to the modules folder works also, with or with a changes folder.

Browser Selection and Update Tool error

sure.. we can have copy instead of move.. even though is not a problem to move them as root, which you would have to do for copy, if your target dir is POSIX. Just trying to make it easier for new users. I'm not sure what percentage of new users use POSIX drives or know about root and what to do wh...

Browser Selection and Update Tool error

Some modules are not able to be Moved or Copied. For details see Installing on USB (Post by Rapha_ #82889) and Installing on USB (Post by Ed_P #82892).

I think all the modules' closing step should say Copy rather than Move and the modules' permissions tweaked to permit that.

I just tried this function and I had the same problem of permissions on the file downloaded in the tmp folder. When I boot a USB drive with Porteus installed the /tmp folder is in RAM and the modules folder is on the FAT32 drive and when I COPY a downloaded, or created, xzm module to the modules fo...

I understand Darkstar. I have no idea why you had such problems copying a module to the modules folder. No one has had them before that I recall.
