Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Ok, I've downloaded and will test later. I seem to be having troubles booting into text mode and having xconf run first (poulsbo video). I'll have to fix that. Posted after 1 day 1 hour 23 minutes 7 seconds: Ahau, Automounting and thunar are working fine. Haven't found any other problems, probably w...

Re: Porteus install on HDD with Xfce desktop

Ok, Ill see to the changes later today. I'd suggest copying the entire /porteus folder onto the USB drive, rather than just pulling the /porteus/base folder. There's really not much dead weight there, and you won't have to create /modules, /optional, /rootcopy, etc. -- it will also make sure you get...

Porteus install on HDD with Xfce desktop

My interest in using Porteus stems from ownng an Acer Aspire One 751h. The poulsbo chipset that comes with this netbook provides marginal graphics performance without a bit of hacking. However, Porteus-1.1 will ship with kernel mods and use fbdev to provide the best video performance I've experience...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Works on desktop and acer netbook. No startup hang with thunar. Both usb sticks and external drives mounting properly.

Well done! to say the least.

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

OK I'll tlook for that. I played around with this again last night and got mounting working again but only after installing gnome-mount on newly created usb stick using always fresh. I have figured out that the external drive mount failures are a config problem. The only way I had it working was aft...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Are you perhaps running with saved changes? Probably am since I have it all sitting in a partition formatted with xfs and booting using a modified lilio stanza taken out of the porteus lilo.conf and I have been installing/uninstalling in this system using installpkg and removepkg, not with modules....

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Booted my existing porteus and used removepkg to remove salix gvfs and gnome-mount. Shutdown and replaced xfce module with the new xfce-4.8 (a4) module and rebooted. No automounting, no gvfs installed so installed salix gvfs and rebooted. Usb stick and external drive icons on desktop and in thunar s...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

OK here's a snap, not so good but in any case bottom two icons on desktop are My_Desktop (external drive) and SALIXINST (usb stick).

Side pane also shows two usb mounts and below is the file system.

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

when you use gnome-mount, does it add existing local drives to the left pane in Thunar? Yes both usb stick and external drives show up in the side pane. Icon also shows on desktop for each device. I could click side pane or icon and open usb stick but not the usb drives. I had a play and it seemed ...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Probablt not the solution you wanted but I have auto mounting to work in 4.8. I uninstalled porteus gvfs, then installed gvfs from salix iso. USB stick was then recognised when inserted but I could not mount it with right click on icon. I then installed gnome-mount from the iso and it works just fin...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Ahau, I have tried both 4.6 and 4.8 with all kde removed. basic desktop working and I have automounting with 4.6 but not 4.8.

I have been testing a bit this AM on 4.6. I have found some problems but have not progressed much further than that.

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

Bad storm here, had everything off at the mains and out checking drainage. I will hopefully have a dependency list for salix xfce this evening after I settle down. Lunchtime I built the basic xfce-4.6.2 from salix and had thunar running on p- rc-1 but all else was not meant to go cli or had a depend...

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

One last thing, You're probably going to start on this before me, My thought would be build a module from the the base package and see if it works Then start looking for dependecies or other changes required if they are. Plugins and the like would be secondary in my mind.

Re: XFCE - collaboration thread to produce a Porteus module

hey ahau, The base salix 32bit xfce package on the iso is /salix/basis/xfce-4.6.2-i486-5.txz. If you extract it to a directory somewhere you will get an idea of whats in it in /somewhere/usr/bin Terminal xfce4-appearance-settings xfdesktop Thunar xfce4-appfinder xfdesktop-settings exo-csource xfce4-...
