Re: Porteus-v1.1rc1-i486 ready for testing

@wread Excuse me for interfering. This console is used for output when KDE is running so all that you see here is just output produced by different programs you run in KDE (errors, warnings and etc). While running KDE (or other DE) you can switch to console it was started from and will see this. I t...

Re: Porteus-1.1-rc1-x86_64 is ready for testing

I'm sorry for confusion I've created over my own stupidity. Originally I've tried to compare video playback in winXP (I've mentioned versions of mplayer and smplayer before) and this RC of Porteus after you've said that open-source drivers for legacy ATi cards are quite good, but then I got carried ...

Re: conky 1.8.1 + deps

Thank you Hamza!
First one is Actual temperature and second one is for Average temperature?

I've reuploaded archive with something a little bit more normal (no /usr/local anymore and more options for WiFi) and will update cofiguration file later (when I'll be satisfied with it myself)

smplayer/mplayer bug (Porteus 1.1rc)?

Hello all! Actually I'm not sure if this is bug, but it's as follows: I have a quite old noteboook, Acer Aspire 5100, CPU Turion 64x2 2.3Ghz, 2 cores, 4Gb but it's barely enough for FullHD video (sometimes frames are skipped with CPU usage of ~40-50%, so I need -frameskip option). Most likely becaus...

conky 1.9.0

Update (2014-03-12) Since I've lost my usb flash, I decided to rebuild everything from scratch: conky-1.9.0-nolua.xzm conky-1.9.0.xzm (depends on lua at least, didn't test it though) lua-5.1.5-x86_64-1cf.xzm (example lua module) Compiled from official sources on clean porteus 3.0 (+devel) ./configur...

Re: Games: what about your favorite game on linux

Re: Auto vga driver installation

Hi all! vga-detect works for Radeon HD 4650 but doesn't work for my notebook since its videocard requires legacy drivers (or driver v9.3 and below): http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Legacy/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx lspci: ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] [1002:5975] Actually ...

Re: Porteus 64 and Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi

this is not necessary and may only screw things up. skip this next time. Oh. Looks like it works. At least I can ping my laptop. echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" > /ets/resolv.conf Nameserver is 8.8.8.8 ? Not 192.168.0.1 ? Anyway, it's working now. Can't believe I've wasted so much time on it and it was s...

Re: Porteus 64 and Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi

Hello Fanthom and Crashman! I'm sorry that I didn't greet everyone in advance... I guess the problem lies in the fact that I don't know what to choose in Linux In Windows XP I have choices like these: Authentication: Open, Shared, WPA-None Encryption: WEP, Off WEP encryption is better than nothing s...

[Solved] Porteus 64 and Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi

To make it short I can't use Wi-Fi with Porteus and I'd like to ask for advice I have Ad-Hoc network with WEP. Windows machine is sharing internet connection via Wi-Fi and have configuration like this: http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2815/pic20111022150814.png What is the proper way to connect to...

Re: Few questions, requests and so on...

@fanthom /etc/profile /etc/profile is a file... Anyway, I've made a check "if [ ! $HOME = '' ]" and I hope this will be enough to put script to /etc/profile.d and it won't load before user login. this feature is now implemented and will be ready for testing in first rc of Porteus-1.1 Thank you! yes ...

2)How safe it is to mount this container directly from USB flash drive (although it's not the best option for copy2ram if I'm planning to remove USB device from computer IMHO)? should be safe enough - unmount command calls 'sync' first to make sure that all data are copied successfully (you can alw...

Few questions, requests and so on...

First of all I'd like to say Thank You for Porteus and for "[HOWTO] - Slax in encrypted file container". Then Hello everybody! I'm not sure where to post this, so excuse me if I'm using wrong section of forums (I'm not sure if I should split it or something else). If anybody is interested, here's ho...
