Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

..snip.. @nanZor you can invoke a su GUI by using pkexec. Even better use our own script. /opt/porteus-scripts/org/psu /usr/bin/gparted (psu is porteus su) ..snip.. Oops - the script for the live-usb complains with: "Error: Illegal ISO File" when I try to burn the 5.0 RC1 iso to a usb stick. Maybe ...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Busybox VI editor bugs / solution Ok, so not truly a Porteus bug, BUT since we rely on the vi editor from it - the latest version of BB 1.31.0 has fixed a few bugs in the vi editor (amongst other utils). While widescale adoption of the latest BB may not be in the cards, one can pick off the latest ...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Intel Atom cpu idle states .. More of a non-bug! Formerly with earlier kernels, I had to use the cheatcode intel_idle.max_cstate=0/1 to prevent a frequent system lockup at boot. Not any more. System boots stable and that cheatcode isn't necessary - just a tip for Intel Atom users who have this chea...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Wireless Connection Notification LOVE 5.0 RC1, just picking off the low-hanging fruit ... When a wireless connection is made, there is no notification that it has done so if the system is set to automatically connect. Or upon manual disconnect and reconnect. Probably not a bug, but a cosmetic decis...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

SAVEFILE.dat creation at end of process..

Using the built-in savefile tool, at the end of the process it just brings up mousepad with an empty file...

I know where to put my cheatcodes so it isn't a problem, but just a heads up.

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Found a symptom of this problem on this one cranky box. Seems related to wireless. The older 2015 Intel computestick will sit at a black screen once the initial boot is done forever until I click the mouse. HOWEVER, if I boot with a known good wireless dongle attached, video will autoconfigure in a ...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

LIVE USB creator tool no su gui found Ok, the live usb creator brings up a message box wanting you to drop to the commandline as root to start the tool manually. Yet other tools that need root access can be done by entering "toor" into the messagebox that pops up and continuing on immediately. Is t...

[Solved] Include mini-browser Netsurf in the future

Heh, well just tested the latest XFCE4 5.0 RC1 and see that the desktop link to the Porteus faq leads to calling up Lynx in U/Xterm, instead of calling up the browser chooser! I think this is great. However, I see that as a proof-of-concept using lynx and uxterm. Us old timers are going to gravitate...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Video just stays black until I move and click the mouse - only on one box out of the 4 I am testing with. I noticed that the video autoconfiguration takes a bit longer than usual on my 4 machines. But on one older Intel computestick that used to run Win 8.1 (circa 2015), after the initial boot, the...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Boot splash inconsistent: One of my boxes uses "legacy video" in bios, despite being UEFI enabled. What is weird, is on that one, I can see the current status of the login's, that is.. In the upper right, the boot splash details about using root : toor, and guest : guest. OK cool. But on my other 3...

Awesome - testing out the XFCE4 version on 4 different machine right now.

But instead of just one long thread, should we make each bug an individual topic in a dedicated subforum? Make it easier to reference....

[Solved] Include mini-browser Netsurf in the future

I marked it solved - even though small, if someone wants it bad enough, just grab the module. I always have to resist the temptation to turn Porteus into something it isn't. I quite like it's current state. I also figured out that in my subconsiousness came my experience with the tiny Slitaz distro ...

Include mini-browser Netsurf in the future

Maybe we're drifting too far into a separate topic, but I'll disagree a bit. Maybe back before high speed internet has become the norm, but most people -at least those I meet- only ask me about Linux as an alternative way to get some old hardware able to pump out some 4K cat videos. Ever try to show...

Porteus to Micro-SD-CARD boot - easy!

As an aside about sd-card vs micro-sd-card capabilities --- This trick may be useful for both, BUT just so some who try this don't blame Porteus: Some computers that seem to work with SD-Cards from a windows standpoint, may not work too well with Linux. So even if you use the util to burn an sd-card...
