Nemisis-the God of retributive Justice
I get what you are saying. I'm just saying that Nemesis is all but invisible to most users. If one is seeking mindshare / new developers and such, then perhaps 4 years of development warrants some sort of notification and ease of download from the main Porteus web page, not just in the user-contribu...

Different carts indeed - there's also DragonFlyBSD with smp and hammer filesystem. So sad to see these guys break up like that instead of providing a unified front. Oh well, that's real life for ya'. :) I'm with Raja on this one about Nemesis - I think it needs more clarification from the devs about...

Nemisis-the God of retributive Justice
I'd try it, but unless it goes semi-official, I have FOUR years of threads to dig through to understand. Starting from 2015 in the "how to get it" thread, is it really based on Manjaro and OpenRC? Or is it now Archlinux and systemd? Wait - in 2017 it switched to Artix? You can see the dilemna of som...

Just watch out for the catch-22 of obsessing about cpufreq and power savings ... If you are doing real work with it, say compiling a kernel, and it takes longer to do so, the overall power consumed may be the same as if you had cpufreq cranked up and the compile finishes much faster. Which version o...

Window size
Something is funky there, but in situations like that I use the old Linux trick: Hold down the ALT key, and then click and hold the mouse in the window and drag it so you can actually see the bottom of the window - or any options you need. I've been in this catch-22 situation before where I made my ...

Porteus on UEFI-ONLY: rock solid boot!
Honorable Mention: Although I rely solely on the included usb burning utilties in the Porteus iso, or other utilities inside once running, I think this deserves honorable mention. RUFUS will also burn perfectly well for a UEFI-ONLY machine like many of mine are. All you have to do is tell it the pa...

Neko - thank you very much for all your kernel work! Outstanding. Ed - the UEFI spec doesn't really mandate use of vfat. You can use ANY filesystem you want for EFI partitions, as long as your efi driver supports it. Hence, if one really wanted to, they could be "fat free" and run solely say from an...

I have. I just ran it on the latest Porteus x86_64 RC, saved the logs, and rebooted. Pretty uneventful, although after reboot, it hangs at Launching NTFS EFI Loader 'EFI\bootx64.efi' Which I think means that perhaps ntfs support is not part of the bootx64.efi options? I'm not a bootloader creator, j...

FAT supports EFI, but you can't boot EFI witih NTFS. Actually you can. That's one reason why the Rufus burner allows for an NTFS boot for EFI should you choose. https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/wiki/FAQ#Blah_UEFI_Blah_FAT32_therefore_Rufus_should_Blah I think the keyword here is that this myth got ...

Porteus on UEFI-ONLY: rock solid boot!
Just wanted to say thanks to the devs for making the X86_64 iso work right out of the box for UEFI-ONLY machines, and their built-in windows and linux install .bat or shells. In addition, the built-in tools like "live-usb" installer and such never fail to produce a bootable image that can run withou...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems
Sluggish Mount detective work ... Aha! It seems that the sluggish filesystem mounts of up to 20 seconds on my XFCE4 RC1 may be due to permissions. Update: I have reduced the automounting delay from 20 seconds down to about 10 seconds from when the desktop first appears. Since I regularly crash my b...

@nanZor, in order to fix the black screen issue, please try this module (put it inside porteus/base): https://www.mediafire.com/file/gbd3r5c55lq181d/009-[snip]... Thanks! Got it installed with RC1 and am testing now. Oddly, other than a few times I could repeat it earlier, the problem no longer exi...

Latest update-firefox script nutty - or is it me?
SOLVED!
Great point about trying it from Always-Fresh. This time it worked fine with 4.0. And I love watching that script fly and do it's thing. Nice work people!
I'll give my 5.0rc1 a go when I'm near it next.

It does it too on my stable 4.0
I tried that thinking I must have mucked up my rc1 playing around with stuff, but nope - 4.0 does it.
Overall I *dig* the new script and what it tries to accomplish. Very thoughtful for the end-user.

Possible solution for video hang on Intel
Yet another attempt to tame the Intel Atom - at least with Porteus 4.0 ... I found this gem at the Archlinux wiki about Syslinux - specifically the troubleshooting sections about having a teeny cursor in the upper left hand corner during boot, and some of my Atoms will hang right there. The troubles...
