A stupid little "df -h" puzzle I cannot explain

Hello everyone! I am using "porteus 3.13.6-porteus #1 SMP PREEMPT..." (Porteus 3.0, 64bit). df -h says: bash-4.2# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on aufs 2.4G 296M 2.1G 13% / devtmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev /mnt/live/run 2.0G 859M 1.1G 44% /run ; -> so I thought "hmmmm. 859 MB RAM wasted ...

Where to find Porteus ftp MIRROR SERVERS?

Hello, Can you tell me where to find Porteus FTP mirror servers, preferably including lots of pre-built modules too? Someone mentioned a .nl ftp university server, but I forgot to write it down... Also, there gotta be some servers who have all the precompiled .xzm modules! Would love to find ...

Re: PXE BOOT: Selective "ipappend" option for PXE Chain load

Oh, shit, it's still much easier. Syslinux has the "PXE" chain boot option, all you need is to rename the PXE chain loader to "somefilename.0": LABEL PXE_Diskcryptor_v2 IPAPPEND 0 MENU LABEL PXE-Diskcryptor PXE test PXE loader_img.0 TEXT HELP DISKCRYPTOR-BOOT_PC_4 PXE Test v2 ENDTEXT Maybe even the ...

Re: PXE BOOT: Selective "ipappend" option for PXE Chain load

I found out the solution myself. The trick is to use "IPAPPEND 1" at the beginning of the file, and inside each section of where you do not need this IPAPPEND option, you simply place a "IPAPPEND 0", like this: PROMPT 1 TIMEOUT 90 UI /vesamenu.c32 ~ DEFAULT GUI IPAPPEND 1 MENU BACKGROUND /porteus.pn...

PXE BOOT: Selective "ipappend" option for PXE Chain loading?

Hello, To whom it may concern - I have sucessfully been able to use the PXE boot option of "Diskcryptor" to encrypt a harddisk, and I have been able to use the PXE bootmenu of a Porteus distribution to get this to run. The whole thing is a bit tricky, you need a file called "pxechain.com" which is a...

PXE booting the "diskcryptor" image file does not work

Hello, I know it's not a Porteus problem, but maybe you can help. I'm using Porteus 3.0 as PXE server and DHCP server. The multi-boot PXE menu is very useful, I can boot Porteus via PXE fine, I can boot DOS via PXE fine, but I just cannot boot the "diskcryptor" PXE boot file. "Diskcryptor" is an alt...

Re: Feedback for "Why porteus.org was suspended?" announceme

I think to save bandwith, the wizard could be modified so that he does not create an unique ISO file, but a list:

"Ah, you need to download THIS iso from the ponce base, plus THESE modules..... and you need THIS textfile for booting!"

-> much smaller data to create.

How's about this!?

Re: Feedback for "Why porteus.org was suspended?" announceme

Hello, I propose a different solution. If I want to avoid excessive traffic, I would simply put up all the ISOS and modules etc. on Usenet. Paid usenet providers are as cheap as 50 Euros per YEAR - if you use "premiumize.me". They have a retention of 1000 days, which is more than enough. All the hea...

Re: Porteus 3.0 final feedback

a) Yes I need both cards, for forwarding some local traffic from one net to another; where and how to blacklist?
Both cards are on the motherboard and are, essentially, the same chipset (Realtek RTL 81xx something)........ !

b)Yes I use the same "python" that comes with the Porteus package.

Re: Porteus 3.0 final feedback

More feedback: a) New TigerVNC 1.3.x needs a new command line so it will not resize the specified geometry settings: vncserver -geometry 1280x1024 -extension RANDR (The "-extension RANDR" is new and important) b) Unfortunately, SABNZBD crashes now, and I do not know just what to do; he complains abo...

Re: Porteus 3.0 final feedback -> eth0 and eth1 are swapped

Hello, I noticed that Porteus 3.0 sometimes calls the first ethernetcard "eth0", sometimes he calls it "eth1". This is very inconvenient for me, because I have some /etc/rc.local - bootscripts and firewallscripts, etc. which are relying on the fact that the networkcard should always be the same devi...

got teamviewer 8 to run on porteus 2.0, 2.1 , 64bit!

Hello, I finally got teamviewer8 to run stably on Porteus 2.0 64bit and Porteus 2.1 64bit. It was a bit tricky. These are the steps to get Teamviewer 8 to run fine: a) download Teamviewer8 (tar.gz file) from www.teamviewer.com b) as user "guest", depack it to /opt -> you will have /opt/teamviewer8 (...

Re: Cannot get PPTP or VPN to "vpnbook.com" to work

Sorry, I mistyped. I was using Porteus 2.0. I have specifically retried to get VPNBOOK to run on a fresh Porteus 2.1 64bit distro, but I was unsucessful so far. This is what I did: a) boot a fresh Porteus 2.1 64bit KDE distro b) Download the zip file from vpnbook.com and depack it c) go to right dow...
