Re: Stubborn file (extlinux.sys), cannot delete

extlinux sets the unmodifyable attribute chattr -i extlinux.sys ps first post! A-ha! That looks to be exactly the issue. I'll boot into Porteus on my way home tonight, and respond here with the outcome. Thanks, sams! From Wikipedia: The form of the chattr command is: chattr [-RV] [-+=AacDdijsSu] [-...

Stubborn file (extlinux.sys), cannot delete

This is not a standard Porteus install, as I've installed v09 on an ext3 partition, using extlinux to boot (when using the liloinst.sh file, KDE loads with 1024x768 resolution, which looks awful on my laptop as it has a wider screen). So, this is not a bug with the current system, and it's probably ...

Re: What is you computer model, does it work with the OS

Here's my laptop. I'll get my desktop some other time, I don't use it with Porteus very often. You'll all be proud to know that your resident noob was able to redirect the output of lspci into a text file, without looking up how to do it (I HAZ MAD LINUX SKILLZ!) 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporati...

Re: sns-tool experimental version

I believe I had the same issue where the module was not loaded properly, and that was the version of sns-tool included in Porteus V.09. I had to manually copy the files per the instructions given at the end of the sns-tool script.

Thanks!

Re: New distro name

UnknownX is actually kind of growing on me!

Also, LaMP OSX, the light and modular, portable OS.

How many contenders do we have now? We may need to do a runoff election, if there's not a clear winner in the first round.

Yes, Happy New Year too you all!

Still the 31st for me, I'll probably be the last Porteus'r to ring in the new year, unless anyone is in Hawaii!

Linux Basics --For those new (or relatively new) to Linux

**Updated to include information from Captain Picard's links/guide post here: http://www.slax.org/forum.php?action=view&parentID=23220&highlight=nvidia ** Porteus will likely be a popular tool for folks who are new to Linux in general, as it provides an easy way to get up and running in Linux withou...

Re: New distro name

Great submissions, all! In honor of the alien logo that folks seem to like, what if we called it UFO linux? I have yet to think of a great acronym, but something along the lines of Universal Fast OS, or the Universal FanthomX OS? I'll keep thinking about it... ETA: Or, UFO Linux: the Ultimate Feathe...

Hello, all!

Glad to be here, too. I love the remix distro and look forward to testing or otherwise helping!

My hope is that this forum will display properly on my blackberry :)
