Here is the patch to fix that problem. Can you please stick it modules folder and reboot to try the process again.
Works like a charm. Booted into text mode, entered root/toor, xconf, startx, and kde started up. No prompt for username/password again at kde startup, as one would expect.

Re: porteus 32bit alpha testers required

brokenman, I get the same error as quax...........I'm unable to boot into Kde as of yet..........Lxde starts fine. This is the error I get with Konqueror in Lxde: Could not open library '/usr/lib/kde3/kio_http.la'. libgssapi_krb5.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Porte...

Re: LXDE - missing associations for mimetypes

Thanks, fanthom! For posterity's sake, I'll post some more information that I've been working on: After sorting out the types and subclasses files and comparing them against the mimetype.cache file, the following mime types appear to be mapped to an application: application/atom+xml application/docb...

Re: LXDE - missing associations for mimetypes

I believe the missing associations issue can be resolved by adding 'update-desktop-database' to rc.local. See http://library.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/mimetypes-registering.html.en update-desktop-database updates the mimeinfo.cache file, which exists in /usr/share/applications. Upon ...

Re: HP probook 4515s sound

Try opening 'alsamixer' in a console. It will open and show volume controls for master, headphone and speakers. If there is (MM) at the bottom of the speakers column, then press the right arrow key twice to highlight the speakers column, and press 'M'. This will change the setting to (OO). You can t...

Re: [SCRIPT] Update content of a module: config, changes, et

Yes, it is. Thank you! I'll play around with it a bit when I have some time :) Posted after 20 hours 5 minutes 7 seconds: Re: [SCRIPT] Update content of a module: config, changes, etc.. Ok, yes, now that I've played with it, I understand much better. It updates an existing .lzm from your live filesy...

Re: Porteus on the net

I was looking for it on distrowatch yesterday. It shows up on their waiting list, added as of 1/15/2011, and links to porteus.org. Of course, it's not exactly easy to find! So, I'm looking forward to their first review, hopefully of v1.0!

Re: [SCRIPT] Update content of a module: config, changes, et

Very nice, thank you, fanthom! To clarify for your resident noob--this script would copy files from my live filesystem that have been modified (such as blacklisting a driver and loading another one, or changing my language to Polish), and saves those changes to a new module--correct? This allows one...

Re: rt3070 chipset aircrack

Great job! I'm glad you got this one resolved!

On reflection, it would have been easier to copy all of those files from your live filesystem after making your changes (just like you did with your depmod files), rather than unpacking your 001-base.lzm. Either way works, though!

Re: rt3070 chipset aircrack

If this is the only computer you're planning to run from this porteus install, you could extract your 001-core to a directory, make the changes fanthom suggests to blacklist.conf and rc.local, then convert the directory back to a module, and copy it back to your /porteus/base folder. For example: mk...

KDE partition manager

I think kde partition manager might be a good addition, either as a part of porteus (it's module is less than 500kb), or as a module. I've created a module for my own use, and it runs, though I have yet to test it thoroughly.

[SOLVED] Porteus-Module-Tools (merge modules)

When I open Porteus-Module-Tools, select a directory for my modules, and then select "Merge Modules Together", I am prompted for a name for the new module. I enter the name, and then I get a kdialog box that says that it is complete. This box will not close, and once I try to close it, I start getti...

Re: [HOWTO] Install Slax to USB using extlinux by markds

I got it to boot into extlinux, but couldn't get it to find the config file. It got me to a boot prompt, and I could boot to /boot/vmlinuz, but didn't know how to append initrd, so it got hung up. Kind of a moot point now that we're moving towards grub4dos, but may be useful for those still working ...

Re: [HOWTO] Install Slax to USB using extlinux by markds

The link provided above for downloading syslinux tools is dead. Try http://kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/ ... .86.tar.gz instead.

The latest version of extlinux, 4.03, will not install correctly with the method provided above, but 3.86 will.

Re: [HOWTO] run 64- and 32-bit Porteus from the same partiti

Great, thank you!

To be honest, I've been using the max_loop cheatcode and using 'mount /path/to/iso.iso /mnt/iso' without any other options, but I thought mknod and mount -o loop were more technically correct. Courtesy of brokenman, it looks like I can now have it both ways!
