Re: removing grub and linux installation keep win7

I moved this topic to 'General Chat', as this is not related to the installation of Porteus.

Good luck, francois!

Re: Start_here script for porteus

I would certainly be willing to help with assembling the documentation that will go into the text files, but I'm not much help in the scripting department...

Re: sound card issue -- driver ca0106

Ahh, I understand better now. Initially, I thought you were getting no sound at all. If you come across such an article, please post it. I've only found bits and pieces. I was wondering if alsamixer pulled info from asound.state, so I deleted asound.state and alsamixer still worked, so it's not take...

Thanks, KSA_ARAB!

When you have a chance, could you please post your asound.state file here?

Re: slax-get not working

Hi nucleus, I'm not familiar with slax-get, but I think it may be calling for scripts that have either been renamed or modified in porteus. In particular, any script that had 'slax' in it's title was probably renamed to 'porteus', and porteus lzm's use squash4 compression, whereas anything from slax...

Re: Porteus on a USB flash (Grub4DOS) NTFS

Thanks, laikexpert!

Just to clarify, you already had grub4dos installed on your flashdrive, booting other distros, correct?

And, you moved the kernel and initrd into the /porteus folder to eliminate having an extra folder (/boot) in the root of your device, correct?

Re: sound card issue -- driver ca0106

I had a feeling that you would have already tried anything I knew how to suggest :) Do you get no sound at all, or do you get some sound, with limited capabilities? I don't know where the mixer apps find out about driver capabilities, either. I was trying to answer that question myself when I stumbl...

Re: sound card issue -- driver ca0106

Have you ruled out conflicting hardware or drivers?

See: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 4&p=330589

Maybe try booting to command line, rmmod'ing everything you can, then load this drivver, and check alsamixer.

Good luck!

Re: Fixing muted speakers bug

Don't keep me waiting too long, Jay. I'm looking forward to that big sloppy pash. My guess is that this script (rc.alsa) wasn't tested on enough soundcards. My alsamixer doesn't have a setting for "front", but KSA_ARAB does, apparently. I have Master, Headphone, Speaker, Mic Jack, 3 S/PDIF's, and a ...

Re: Fixing muted speakers bug

@KSA_ARAB I don't know if the solution you proposed above would work, but if you test it out, please let us know. That said, why don't you try the following, to fix your low sound on startup: Boot in to porteus. Adjust your sounds to how you would like them to be, in alsamixer (this won't work if yo...

No, I just booted in text mode. Will incorporate it into an .iso and test when I have a chance.

Thanks!

I just tested an .iso, and it works there as well.

And: look, ma! I made my first .iso!

Re: usb-e-sata key

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Try putting porteus on a different usb drive, that you know will boot. Boot in to the syslinux menu on that device, then insert your e-sata drive, and select "Plop bootloader", and see if you can find the e-sata drive in the Plop menu, and try to boot from it. I'm not very fam...

Fixing muted speakers bug

We've had a couple of threads in regards to Porteus starting without sound. Headphones work, but the speakers do not, and this issue is resolved by unmuting the speakers in alsamixer. I have resolved this issue on my system by adding the following two lines to /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa: set Speaker 75% unmu...

Re: usb-e-sata key

I'm not sure what you can do to boot from it...but, have you tried booting to a porteus CD or usb stick, then using PLOP to boot up the e-sata?
