Porteus Kernel Builder

Neko - thank you very much for all your kernel work! Outstanding. Ed - the UEFI spec doesn't really mandate use of vfat. You can use ANY filesystem you want for EFI partitions, as long as your efi driver supports it. Hence, if one really wanted to, they could be "fat free" and run solely say from a...

I think that not bad if brokenman replace kernel and all stuff (vmlinuz, 000-kernel.xzm, 06-crippled_sources.xzm) for him to current 5.1.xx kernel by neko in all ISO files and sync updated ISO files in the all Porteus mirrors.

Howto: Popular AppImages one click away

I've discovered a bunch of AppImages that I find interesting. Will update the list in the first post. Also found the way to dinamically choose the right path to the apps at boot time: bootpart=`echo $PORTDIR | awk -F '/' '{ print $3 }'` and then: sed -i "s/sdb1/$bootpart/g" /home/guest/.local/share/...

What is the difference?
Fresh --> early adopter (6.2.5) as of now
Standard --> Previous branch (6.2.4)
Still --> Enterprise / Corporate use (6.1.6)

See here.

Cheers!

Yes, I guess you're right. The question is, NTFS is readable for many devices out there. Think of using the USB stick to a wide range of multimedia files, videos, music, epubs... I'm on my way to find the perfect mobility solution on my pocket ;) Also, would I be able to load my custom modules from ...

Porteus Kernel Builder

@neko san,

The last kernel version working well for me in Nemesis/Aporteus is 5.1.15.

Thenceforth, I'm experiencing sloooow boot times. (I think you too). :%)

Thank you.

Cheers!

Yes, symlinks are supported in NTFS, but not in FAT filesystem. FAT supports EFI, but you can't boot EFI witih NTFS. And this is where the journey begins with laptops and secure boot and BIOS updates... Cheers! P.S.: I asked in another thread if anyone knows how to create a USB stick with a FAT boot...

Making porteus better: what is your wishlist

I'd love something like MATE-HUD functionality :)

Peek seems handy too. Makes easy to show others how to do things (i.e. teaching others to do some black magic for beginners/intermediate users like me) ;)

2019 Updated Nemesis Base Modules

the skeleton is simply as brokenman made it when nemesis was born... he has since made changes in the EFI setup in slackware porteus, i have no idea if they would translate to nemesis(i have no EFI hardware to test on) That makes sense. I thought I could share at least initrd.xz and 000-kernel.xzm ...

2019 Updated Nemesis Base Modules

Thanks for the regular updates :) I must say I'm very satisfied with this flavour. But there are some little things around that I need to polish: Booting with provided kernel (5.07) and base_only, freezes for me. Looking for /etc/porteus.d , but still no clue what happened in initrd.xz . :hmmm: Spea...

Root script at startup

I've been trying to insert some routines to the startup sequence (... Ah-miga ) to patch the system depending on whether I am at home or at work. To do certain tasks, I need elevated privileges, and this is where cliexec=myscript cheatcode, comes around. But every time I open a terminal, it tries to...
