Porteus-5.0-rc1-Openbox with ZST compression

LZ4 support is there from Kernel-3.xxx and in squashfs tools.. I have seen a Debian variety asking you to choose compression, xz,LZ4 etc during remastering years ago. There is some confusion in that reporting. Facebook reference is to ZSTD only. Compression ratio:2.884 Github reference to LZ4 lists,...

base modules size b=256k : 335.1MB base modules size b=1M : 321.7 xorg size was 3 MB higher and it caused a delay of 1 sec. I will go with your module. Porteus site proudly claims 15 seconds boot time and stability as its unique talking point. A 100% reduction in boot time and fast deployment of app...

Porteus-5.0-rc1-Openbox with ZST compression

My first impressions to jss efforts. Zst compression and deployment cuts down boot time by 3 seconds. DMESG: kernel finishes in 6 seconds. [ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0xb4, date = 2019-04-01 [ 0.000000] Linux version 5.1.13-porteus (root@porteus.example.net) (gcc vers...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

Clean boot. Noticed some new errors in syslog. details later. SpaceFM ,not perfect still. jssouza, c...

loop number

Two lines from DMESG file. - 6 seconds work out [ 2.526660] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 8.619084] udevd[599]: starting eudev-3.2.5 I was interested in these ¨loop devices¨ stuff since ,I assume 6 seconds were consumed, during boot , building loop devices . Obviously, more modul...

loop number

Thanks jssouza and brokenman. May be when you are free, you can educate me a little. When you activate a module, it is mounted and shows up in /mnt/live/memory/images/. Why does OS need to create loop devices for them to read/write, Can´t mount option alone do that? What expects a block device and h...

ZSTD compression instead of XZ for the modules

Zstd compression available in squashfs-tools in Slackware. I got it through USM. Check alien database.
A xzm module, 300MB was , 318MB in zstd. Compresion level 22.

Speed has to be checked when an ISO is made with zst and deployed, in real time opening applications.

Ocenaudio-3.6.4-64 bit.

Download deb package from here.

http://www.ocenaudio.com/en/download

If deb2xzm works, convert, or unpack with p7zip, dir2xzm and activate. Installs in /opt.

Needs Qt5 preinstalled in your machine.

Works fine.
