Re: Lumina DE 1.3.1 x64

at the moment, with say, a selection graphics editors and audio production tools installed you could easily end up with gtk2, gtk3, qt4, qt5, kdelibs/kf5, and fltk... Agreed. This drives me crazy!! We may very well still be using qt4 when qt6 hits! Xfce 4.14 Continues Getting Closer With Its GTK3 P...

Re: From almost no privacy to private information to be sold

Android and Apple App stores VPNs are banned in China, unless they register with the government and escrow their keys, enabling state surveillance. I'm guessing the point of the story is not about how people go about getting a VPN but the fact that Android and Apple as a large software supplier ope...

China orders mobile app stores to remove VPN apps Tue Jun 27 http://boingboing.net/2017/06/27/great-firewall-with-apps.html Starting July 1, the official Android and Apple App stores will no longer allow Chinese users to download the VPN apps that Chinese people rely upon in order to get around the ...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

OLD "news" and none mentioning Linux desktops. This is a prime example of arse up and back to front logic and reasoning. If you accept that the Chinese have a Law that confirms their desire for backdoors then can you provide a logical post with facts or a link where the Chinese government have made...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

no one can make their own decision unless someone posts information And I find people who add nothing to the forum but innuendo, rumors and gossip, not information, to be annoying pigs. If you're concerned about a backdoor, develop a version that doesn't have it rather than worry a major contributo...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

I'm not trying to scaremonger but i thought i had better say something.. :( It sure sounds like you are. If you're that concerned about China stop buying products made in China. Cars, clothes, appliances, dog food, etc. And just because a law is made does not mean everything in existence will sudde...

Re: Porteus Kernel Builder

neko that is an unfounded speculation rather than a proven fact. Do not let it cloud your testing. So the unfounded speculation that SystemD has a backdoor because it's approved by the NSA is to be avoided and people get their panties in a twist all over it but if people speculate that Chinese soft...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

I'm not sure what to make of it all Neko. It's just user opinions that i've read at the bottom of reviews that people now seem to be suspicious of anything based in China after this new government Backdoor law, It does spoil things with not knowing if anything from China can be trusted now or in the...

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

Nearly forgot to mention while reading user reviews about Deepin some users had the same concerns about a backdoor in kingsoft wps office as that is also based in China and why would that be exempt from the law?

Re: Porteus Kernel Builder

To be honest i don't know any more than i posted above hence why i was going to put this to Neko to see what he thinks. Like yourself i thought Deepin looked really nice and over the last few days i've been looking at reviews and i keep noticing user comments about the Chinese government requirement...

Re: Porteus Kernel Builder

Neko if you can get deepin running on arch porteus it will motivate me a lot!. When i first saw Deepin posted by Neko i thought it looked really nice but having since read about Deepin around the forums there are some concerns that i was going to put to Neko. Going by users posts its basically felt...
