Re: Things YOU can help with.

Thanks for the links brokenman. I believe df is looking at /proc/mounts now. Yes, you are right. I downloaded and compiled df from coreutils-8.21 on Porteus 3.2. (Porteus 3.0.1 has coreutils-8.21). Running it, it did not show the loop devices. guest@porteus:~/Downloads/coreutils-8.21$ ./src/df Files...

Re: Things YOU can help with.

The output of df shows loop devices. I am told this was not the case in v3.1. This could be the explaination: On Porteus 3.2: guest@porteus:~/Downloads/coreutils-8.25$ find /var/log/packages/ -name *squashfs* -type f /var/log/packages/squashfs-tools-4.3-x86_64-1 On Porteus 3.1: guest@porteus:~/Down...

Re: Porteus -v3.2 final

What translation would you use in german? This is a difficult one because I am sure the english word 'root' doesn't translate well in most languages. Maybe use the translation of "System Administrator"? On a Slackware with locale=de_CH.utf8 (Swiss German) opening Thunar as root shows the orange war...

Re: rss feeds

Would one of these help? Or is this already the official feed? https://www.kernel.org/feeds/kdist.xml . First entry is to the mainline rc and the subsequent ones are for the stable ones. https://lkml.org/rss.php EDIT: Just clicked on the links to verify and saw that the 4.8 series just got bumped to...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

Ooh! Found this interesting script. Seems rc.S is not the only place where hardware clock is written to. cat /usr/lib64/pm-utils/sleep.d/90clock Would this script be executed upon hibernate/suspend? EDIT: The comment at the top of this file says modern kernels handle this correctly, so does the kern...

Re: Porteus-v3.2rc5 bug reports

I could reproduce the problem with the nvidia driver txz2xzm. The problem comes from the tgz package itself. The doinst.sh from the tgz package calls usr/sbin/nvidia-switch in the temporary root. The nvidia-switch script needs the temporary root in its $ROOT variable. Since it does not find this, it...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

What about cases where a user doesn't have an outside internet connection? He should still have correct time, since hardware clock would still be read, correct zoneinfo and how to interpret the read hardware clock value (local/utc) are still done with the timezone= cheatcode. Only issue is if the u...

Re: Porteus -v3.2 final

I assume this is the bug report thread for porteus 3.2 final - since it is in the bug reports section, although the thread title does not say so. If not, sudoers please move this to the appropriate section. On kernel 4.8.6, broadcom wl crashes the kernel. Based on this link https://bbs.archlinux.org...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

A few months back, at work we needed a Linux environment. So, I used porteus on a mac book pro which already had OSX and Windows on it. Although system time was shown wrong on porteus, this was not an issue until clock skew was detected while compiling software. So, I did the logical thing: used the...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

Thank you for the detailed explaination brokenman. Thank you also for answering my question from the other thread: Does the hardware clock also set the timezone? The hardware clock is dumb. It has no concept of time zones or the natural drift in time that all clocks suffer. It just holds a number. I...

Re: Porteus-v3.2rc5 bug reports

Does the hardware clock also set the timezone? This is the output from my system: [root:/home/guest]# hwclock --show Tue 08 Nov 2016 07:01:42 AM CET .088982 seconds [root:/home/guest]# date Tue Nov 8 06:01:46 CET 2016 Strangely, the system time (output of date) is the correct actual time here. This ...

Re: Eastern day time in north america

Earlier today, something like 2hr 20' ahead, but now just 20' ahead. :Search: I think the difference in time happens if you are logged in or not. When I log-in the time is 1:20' ahead (Me based out of CET compared to your London time I guess). Also, the time when a particular user has mde a post ch...

[Solved] kmap=x cheatcode also in textonly console

Hi, I have a Swiss German keyboard and hence use the kmap=ch cheatcode. However, in textonly mode (init = 3), the layout still defaults to US and I have to manually change the keyboard layout using the loadkeys command. Is it possible to change the keyboard layout in both textonly as well as graphic...

Re: TVS DOT MATRIX PRINTER 455 XL CLASSIC

Hi francois, I went to the manufacturer's website: http://www.tvs-e.in/product-detail-db.aspx?id=7&typ=btn_bi&pro=ind_tb1 and clicking on Downloads, I found a section called "Linux Drivers". http://www.tvs-e.in/downloads/MSP455%20XL%20CLASSIC/Linux-Drivers.zip The zip contains a Readme and two ppd f...
