Re: Porteus-v3.2.1 bug reports

No WiFi support!! Confirmed. Broadcom wl is not included. Manually built wl (with the 004-linux48.patch) and insmoding it, brought back the wifi. Hi Ed_P, I added the broadcom-sta-6.30.223.271_4.8.6_porteus-x86_64-1jay.xzm to my Modules folder and rebooted but it didn't help. :( This won't ...

Re: printing-3.2 for porteus 3.2

Hi Blaze, The problem occurs because of the asc file. The slackbuild tries to retrieve version in the second line as VERSION=${VERSION:-$(echo $PKGNAM-*.tar.?z* | rev | cut -f 3- -d . | cut -f 1 -d - | rev)} Because of the hplip-3.16.11.tar.gz.asc also present, the above resolves to: sh -x hplip.Sla...

Re: Porteus 3.2 and Firefox/Flashplayer problem

if flash* is previously installed in save.dat I think this is where the problem lies. Not just flash, but firefox also, for example. I guess even USM installs the package/packages first and then creates an xzm module out of it. What this means is if the user had changes turned on when installing, t...

Re: accidentaly installed porteus to my hard drive

If this does not work, you may have a tablet that has 32bit efi on a 64 bit system. Search for bootia32.efi and copy it to EFI/BOOT folder on your usb and try to boot from the USB again. that's exactly the kind of tablet I have, actually :/ I tried this bootia32.efi thing as in http://blog.puppylin...

Re: accidentaly installed porteus to my hard drive

Distributions like ubuntu, fedora and opensuse work with secure boot enabled. So, if piggybacking on the installed bootloader of these distributions (Eg: editing grub.cfg), other distributions should also run with secure boot on. But try it out on another rainy day, since you have everything setup f...

Re: accidentaly installed porteus to my hard drive

What is your xubuntu architecture? 32 or 64bit?

I assume your grub comes from your xubuntu install? If yes, and xubuntu does not need secure boot turned off, porteus also need not have secure boot turned off if booted from that same grub.

Re: Things YOU can help with.

Thanks for the links brokenman. I believe df is looking at /proc/mounts now. Yes, you are right. I downloaded and compiled df from coreutils-8.21 on Porteus 3.2. (Porteus 3.0.1 has coreutils-8.21). Running it, it did not show the loop devices. guest@porteus:~/Downloads/coreutils-8.21$ ./src/df Files...

Re: Things YOU can help with.

The output of df shows loop devices. I am told this was not the case in v3.1. This could be the explaination: On Porteus 3.2: guest@porteus:~/Downloads/coreutils-8.25$ find /var/log/packages/ -name *squashfs* -type f /var/log/packages/squashfs-tools-4.3-x86_64-1 On Porteus 3.1: guest@porteus:~/Down...

Re: Porteus -v3.2 final

What translation would you use in german? This is a difficult one because I am sure the english word 'root' doesn't translate well in most languages. Maybe use the translation of "System Administrator"? On a Slackware with locale=de_CH.utf8 (Swiss German) opening Thunar as root shows the orange war...

Re: rss feeds

Would one of these help? Or is this already the official feed? https://www.kernel.org/feeds/kdist.xml . First entry is to the mainline rc and the subsequent ones are for the stable ones. https://lkml.org/rss.php EDIT: Just clicked on the links to verify and saw that the 4.8 series just got bumped to...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

Ooh! Found this interesting script. Seems rc.S is not the only place where hardware clock is written to. cat /usr/lib64/pm-utils/sleep.d/90clock Would this script be executed upon hibernate/suspend? EDIT: The comment at the top of this file says modern kernels handle this correctly, so does the kern...

Re: Porteus-v3.2rc5 bug reports

I could reproduce the problem with the nvidia driver txz2xzm. The problem comes from the tgz package itself. The doinst.sh from the tgz package calls usr/sbin/nvidia-switch in the temporary root. The nvidia-switch script needs the temporary root in its $ROOT variable. Since it does not find this, it...

Re: Porteus clock. How it works.

What about cases where a user doesn't have an outside internet connection? He should still have correct time, since hardware clock would still be read, correct zoneinfo and how to interpret the read hardware clock value (local/utc) are still done with the timezone= cheatcode. Only issue is if the u...
