Re: New version of Porteus that boots up in a different way
the dot is still in the hole Aha, THERE'S the problem! wow... just wow. Hey, for the record, I still use windows daily . I can empathize with WinXP emigrants... but " Don't you linux guys get ur not gonna beat windows by insisting people type stuff? " ...that empathy doesn't extend to the tile-clic...

Re: internet security tools 1.0
AdBlockEdge (same is true for AdblockPlus) merits a notation, but idunno how you could present it. Each time you edit a rule and/or each time EasyList or whatever subscription updates, the addon creates a backup copy of its config. By default, IIRC, the addon will keep 5 backup copies, bumping the o...

Naw, not evil. I give props to the bleachbit author. He's been very responsive to bug reports @github & is pulling his hair out trying to support bb usage under windows as well as linux. Maybe he's spread himself too thin to cover such a large scope? Most of the cleaning tasks performed by bleachbit...

Re: control Mouse Pointer by Keyboard/Numpad
Seriously?
First you spouted "Your question is irrelevant of OS"... and now you're blathering about "key on a doze".
I posted to resolve the OP's question, not to philosophize about "why do you think there is a Win key on doze?"

Re: internet security tools 1.0
Thanks for sharing. I intend to check it out. In the browsing tab of your GU,I does "(install) Disconnect" refer to "disconnect.me" addon? (If so, that addon -- its purported value proposition -- seems like a stupid/cruel joke, IMO) "Okay, stand riiiiiiiiiiiight HERE, and wave... and we promises, cr...

Re: control Mouse Pointer by Keyboard/Numpad
Depends your hardware What? Why would keybinds be hardware -dependent? Not exactly what the OP requested (numpad mapping), but here's one hands-off-the-mouse solution: ( DE independent ~~ not specific to LXDE ) http://www.semicomplete.com/projects/keynav/ Most Dell Laps for example have a jog-dial,...

Jim, from a recent article I had bookmarked: source: http://www.dujingshan.tk/blog/porteusahighlymodularportablelinuxenvironment Feb 1, 2014 by Jingshan Du Portable Linux is very useful when you want to carry a handy operating environment as well as your private data and settings along with you. The...

Re: Porteus changing distro
Although I haven't yet tried any LXC wrangling, for use on a desktop system I'm expecting pflask to be more interesting than docker. https://github.com/ghedo/pflask pflask is a simple tool for creating Linux namespace containers. It can be used for running a command or even booting an OS inside an i...

porteus.cfg
(user can manually edit boot line but)
it might be helpful to expand the menu text, to clarify:
-- changes will persist if the "Graphical mode" entry is used
-- the "Copy to RAM" entry does not persist changes

What are the differences between XFCE 4.10.2 and 4.11? Can't find 4.11 on their website google search "xfce 4.11 changelog" The first search result (archived mailinglist announcement) contains the full changelog === Throughout the 4.x versions, odd-numbered versions have served more or less as "rel...

Re: Porteus Desktop Edition 3.0 rc2 bugs/feedback thread
my proposition: maintain a separate version of firefox 'with noscript addon' in the community section of the forum That really does seem to be the best solution. I admire donald's enthusiasm and I also admire fanthom's attention to minimizing the iso size. dismayed by the 3% member base voting abou...

Re: Porteus Desktop Edition 3.0 rc2 bugs/feedback thread
Although I don't mind the absence of pre-installed noscript, I would welcome its presence (pre-installed, but disabled) in an ALWAYS FRESH session. Considering that noscript is one of THE most popular firefox addons, and that its inclusion would add less than 1Mb to the iso, AND that nowadays firefo...
