search all filenames

I miss the Everything Search http://www.voidtools.com/ . It doesn't have to be real-time, I'm happy to update the index database manually every time and then search quickly for a filename. Realizing it on Porteus according to the scripts here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1712042 required...

monitor USBdrive access with iotop: no kernel support?

Porteus 2.1 LXDE with /porteus/changes I suspect that my USB flash drive is accessed too frequently, even though I have a 4GB RAM and have put Firefox cache folder on the host system HDD. I'd like to investigate which process is constantly writing/reading the USB. Installing http://guichaz.free.fr/i...

Dropbox

Does anyone have a recent Dropbox xzm module for 32-bit Porteus (2.1, LXDE) or one for another online storage providers, e.g. Google Drive etc.? I think syncing a linux folder with online storage would be great.

Re: ERROR when drag and drop from browser to the desktop/fol

@Ahau, yes indeed the sdc1 has NTFS. Actually, NTFS supports windows symbolic links but I guess the linux driver doesn't support it (?)

As for dragging from Firefox, I've simply installed a couple of add-ons to Firefox to save links and images via context menu.

Re: ERROR when drag and drop from browser to the desktop/fol

Actually, suddenly drag and drop is not working at all any more in the file manager. Maybe it never has, I'm not sure now. How do I quickly make a link to a given file without typing anything please?

Re: ERROR when drag and drop from browser to the desktop/fol

Not sure related or not, but when I drag-and-drop a file with Ctrl+Shift pressed to create a link in the destination, an ERROR occurs with a message "/mnt/sdc1/Work/Linear Algebra/Lax P.-Linear algebra and its applications-Wiley (2007).djvu: Filesystem does not support symbolic links"

Re: ERROR when drag and drop from browser to the desktop/fol

Thanks but one wouldn't be doing that every time, besides what about image dragging?

do you reproduce the error on your system?

ERROR when drag and drop from browser to the desktop/folder

Porteus 2.1 x32 LXDE Firefox. Drag&drop an image, or the address-bar URL, onto the desktop or a folder. No files are created in the target. Instead an odd "Finished" window appears with an error message "The specified location is not supported" At the same time the .xsession-errors is ammended with ...

Re: save session

Thank you for all the answers and comments. Indeed I had guessed after posting it would be simply writing porteus/changes on the USB connected disk. That's why changing Cache folder location in Firefox to be on a different drive (host's computer HDD) made quite a difference in performance. I'll be w...

I don't know how to attach a picture to convince you.
And I don't have save.dat
So all my original questions stand.

Re: Latex + Lyx

Anyway, using whatever packages available from pkgs.org (I used .rpm, people are kind enough to generate them for other distros) to get precompiled binaries of missing dependencies/libraries/etc., I got both Lyx and Texworks set up. It took me 2 days though, so I will be looking for a more automatic...

Re: save session

It says though, "Only required for saving changes on FATx or NTFS filesystem"
It is also asking me for existing savefile, I want an utility that already knows it. Indeed, I think I have not a file at the moment but a mounted USB folder porteus/changes

save session [Solved]

Does my session live completely in the RAM? How often are the changes saved to the persistent storage (/porteus/changes on my ext4 USB drive, I guess)? Can I force it? Can I change the frequency? Or is it saved on Logout only?
Thanks
Igor

Re: Latex + Lyx

I was hoping to use my favourite editor, Texworks. But unfortunately it is not installed with Texlive (unlike in Windows or Mac). Texworks http://www.tug.org/texworks/ doesn't provide a binary for Linux. I have found Texlive in Debian repository through the Porteus Package Manager. There are buttons...
