Need To Convert OOoLight To Help Publicize Porteus

Greetings! Our home school recently received a donation of many dozen used 2gig drives from Baines Hardware and I'd like to Porteus install them and cram them with goodies to give out promising students at local schools. Because OOoLight in Windows works perfectly for its OOo half size, I'm hoping t...

Re: Modules To Go But Nowhere Easy To Go

Greetings!

I just can't convert OpenOffice 4.1.1 into a functional module right. It keeps stalling out on boot and there're no error messages. Can someone take a crack at it, please?

Re: Can't execute converted Slackware FF 37.0.1

Thanks for the input, Tome, though you might still be able to help me since some kindly Mint Mavens showed that I can simply go ahead and use the converted module I made as I do others and keep my desktop clean of app icons without any extracting or editing stuff by creating a Firefox launcher in th...

Can't execute converted Slackware FF 37.0.1

Greetings: Need to update current Firefox from current 24.2 in my 32bit 3.0.1 XFCE sysytem. I downloaded http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/linux-i686/en-US/ Firefox 37.0.1 and converted it into a module but when I attempt to run it I get "failed to execute command "firef...

Re: Modules To Go But Nowhere Easy To Go

Please do not scare anybody. The porteus package manager usm is darn simple to use. All you have to know is where to put the packages and dependencies once converted to modules (/porteus/modules), so that at reboot they are permanently installed. In addition, libreoffice and abiword are made availa...

No USM GUI in 3.0.1

I'm partly experimenting for the cause:

Have 3.0.1 32bit XFCE on flash and it only displays a command line window for USM instead of a GUI like other versions. Is there any way to force it to display such?

Thanks!

Re: FAT Partition Desktop Icon Doesn't Show

Is there anyway to "reverse" partition locations without having to reformat and reinstall all over again? Any sage advice precious! I suspect GParted would support doing that. Delete the sdb2 partition, shift the sdb1 partition over, allocate a new sdb1, format the new sdb1. Now the concern is, wil...

Re: Flustered trying to get latest Slackware Seamonkey 2.33

as Bogomips says: usm http://packages.slackware.com/ is pretty straight forward > search>find>download ('patches' doesn't mean you have to apply any) its the same package usm grabs "been warned that pkgs.org and others like it also install unnecessary junk and malware" seems unlikey, they just redi...

Re: Modules To Go But Nowhere Easy To Go

LibreOffice and OpenOffice are working properly with Java 7 and 8th FreeOfice I think is a bad choice. Please understand, I'm just trying to help contribute to and build up the user repository with ANY packages available, regardless whether I use the modules or not. We need an easily accessible var...

Re: Flustered trying to get latest Slackware Seamonkey 2.33

2.32.1 seems to be latest Slackware: http://pkgs.org/download/seamonkey P.S. I normally run seamonkey from a folder :) Thanks for the lead but I've been warned that pkgs.org and others like it also install unnecessary junk and malware along with the file you want. Are there any other "pure download...

Re: FAT Partition Desktop Icon Doesn't Show

@jimwg , you do realize that Windows doesn't support multiple partitions on removable drives, right? Thus for your config to work the FAT32 partition has to be sdb 1 for Windows to see it and your Porteus partition sdb2. O boy! :( Thanks for the heads-up! Is there anyway to "reverse" partition loca...

Flustered trying to get latest Slackware Seamonkey 2.33

Greeings! I am having a devil of a time trying to locate and grab 32bit Slackware Seamonkey 2.33 to convert to a Porteus module (it uses latest Flash that current Portrus SM 2.20 can't do) . I Googled for one like crazy and all I get are super-techie sites like http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mo...

FAT Partition Desktop Icon Doesn't Show

Greetings: Via GParted I formatted a flash drive to have 7gigs for Porteus 3.0.1 on a ext4 partition and a FAT32 one to hold any Windows files. The fat partition (sdb2) doesn't show on the desktop when the flash's Porteus is running but does show when I run another flash's Porteus or Mint. The defau...

Re: Porteus acting too swappy/sleepy: (Cache?) Tunables?

Greetings! Via user advice, I've never created SWAP in any of my 8gig Porteus (or Mint) flashes for years. I can't imagine what I'm missing since OpenOffice and SeaMonkey and GIMP snap into operation at a click and I save a lot of space. If it's a flash drive wear and tear prevention issue then I'd ...
