Transferring .dat file contents as Changes file on new drive

Greetings! I have Porteus 3.1 with a 5gig .dat file installed on a FAT32 8gig flash drive. I wish to reformat the drive to ext4 and so do away with the .dat container file scheme. Is there a way I can extract or transplant the .dat file's contents to the new flash (as a new Changes file?) if I brief...

Installing Porteus on Olivia Mint Disk

Very sweet and simple please. I've gleaned https://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1576 and others. I want to replace slow sluggish Olivia Mint on a 760gigRAM Thinkpad R31 with a trimmer swifter OS, and since I'm more familiar with Porteus than doing trial and errors with Slax and Xubuntu, et...

Replacing Deleted Porteus Start-up File/Files

Greetings! I pruned the Mint programs off a working flash drive that was previous installed with Mint 14 then installed Porteus 3.1 which ran okay with Mint home folder intact and functional till I decided to "prune" a few more residual Mint files and folders to make more disk space and when I reboo...

Setting up Porteus as remote desktop server

Greeting!

Subject line tells it all. Need tips on how to configure Porteus to run as a remote desktop server accessible from both Windows and Linux machines. Googling for Ubuntu and Mint's sudo apt-get install xrdp & vncviewer way doesn't apply here. Thanks for any tips.

Re: wine and play on linux

Sidenote: I really don't understand why anyone would bloat the system with crappy windoze stuff - but well, there seem plenty of those out there. Get a spare disk or partition and go dual/multi boot. Unfortunately the best games and most premier apps are Windows-based and till that state changes, W...

Re: wine and play on linux

Okay, I received a donated SanDisk 32gis USB 3.0 Ultra Fit flash drive to play with (Amazingly tiny and holds so much! Where are its guts?? Fantastic!). I hadn't formatted its FAT factory format in case other newbies have qualms about altering their flash drives that deep just taking a sip of Porteu...

Re: Changes to development and forum. Moderators needed.

I am so for expanding on the sea or waterside connections. Like, an water / ocean related adjective compiled with a water related creature/plant. Heck, even "stormy" or "rainy" would work as adjectives. Rainy is always water connected, and we know the oceans do have fierce storms. I'm a late lost w...

Re: wine and play on linux

I have been playing with wine; my experience is that you must have much more storage than what a normal USB stick can offer. Maybe the usb is saturated with wine - it gets blue!- I made a HD-install and it works ok. Cheers! I'm not saying it's a show-stopper for stop and see surfers, but the abilit...

Re: How To Tell Whether Screen Hi Rez Active in R31?

In Linux (in porteus?) , some background images and those on image viewers show that rainbow halo effect sometimes found when high resolution images are being shown in low resolution on other machines. @bogomips and Jim: Is this only with some software only or all of them. So far it's just hi-rez b...
