how to backup restore

Set it up, configure as you like it and then:
make an image of this partition or the whole disk.
Restoring those images has never failed.
(keyword: Clonezilla)

IWCONFIG and finding a matching USB wifi card

First you need to know the MAC address of each device. Plug in one by one and make a note of the MAC cat /sys/class/net/*/address You should see a new MAC appearing every time you plug in an additional device. e.g internal wifi MAC address = USB dongle A, (brand), MAC address = USB dongle B, (brand)...

Broadcom Wifi working great

Your new file would blacklist "wl",if existing. 4.0 doesn't support wifi on netbook. 3.2.2 does. (Post by jssouza #67440) The file does actually un-blacklist the other drivers. (which are commented out in the original file) An empty file would have the same effect - if i'm not completely mistaken. (...

Using on Vista pc

I running XFCE

I have found no other entry dealing with network
There should be a netwok (manager) icon in the panel (top right)
iwlist scan shows lots of networks along with mine
This clearly indicates that the wifi is up and running.
