Re: LXQT on Porteus

Hi Francois,
Siduction ( a distro based on debian SID) is also offering LXQT for i486 as well as amd64 arch. I have tried it and found it amazingly fast and snappy. When Porteus comes with LXQT I will let my XFCE go (although I liked it very much).

Re: [Solved] Update Google Chrome

Hi Jacoby59, no you did everything exactly right. In the folder of your newchrome39 ( meaning before compression) go to the /opt/google/chrome directory there is a file that can have 3 names : google-chrome, google-chrome-stable or google-chrome-unstable. The best way is to change the desktop file i...

Re: Update Google Chrome

Hi Jacoby59 Replace the content from chrome 33 /opt (which is your old chrome) directory with the content of chrome 39 /opt directory (the new chrome). The meaning is to delete the content of the old chrome 33 /opt folder so that it is empty and copy the content of your downloaded chrome 39 /opt fol...

Re: Update Google Chrome

Hi Jacoby59, here is how I did it: Download the chrome 39 as a deb binary file from the chrome home page. Convert the deb file to xzm file (command: deb2xzm). Extract the chrome 39.xzm file (xzm2dir). Extract your original chrome 33.xzm (xzm2dir). Replace the content from chrome 33 /opt directory wi...

Re: Skype-4.3.0.37 with pulseaudio

Hi folks, after all the hassle with that pulseaudio I have adapted a method the people from the puppy world have developed ( thanks to saintless, oscar talks e.al.). http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=86808 . You don't need pulseaudio. Just an errorfree starting skype 4.3.0.37.xzm and ...

Re: Skype 4.3.0.37

Hi bdheeman, thanks for Your reply. I have both Skype and pulseaudio modules now, but even after hours of "googling" I cannot get pulseaudio to work (as user pulse).Skype starts. I have put a request in the i-486 modules request section to create a "Skype with pulseaudio for dummies" Module. Until t...

Skype-4.3.0.37 with pulseaudio

For the next or overnext release of Porteus I would be glad to have a working Skype-4.3.0.37 with pulseaudio, that I can run as root (maybe not possible due to pulseaudio) or as user guest. Maybe with a short description. What I have assembled now is a Skype module that works until after login, but ...

Re: Skype 4.3.0.37

Hi bdheeman, have tried to use slackbuild file following the instructions on the slackwiki.com, but when I try to execute "skype.SlackBuild" I will get the message : skype.SlackBuild: line 28: source: skype.info: file not found . But I see the "skype.info" file right in front of me. Unfortunatley I ...

Re: mergexzm - merge folder of modules and slack packages

Hi Freestyler, thanks a lot for this nice little programm. It's very useful. When I use the built-in merge function of porteus the path is to /porteus/modules, where other active modules are and to keep things separate is sometimes tricky. With merge2xzm I can create a folder with the new module nam...

Re: Porteus changing distro

I think Debian would be the best. It's base is large (imho the largest), it's stable and a lot people work on maintaining it. Beside that it would also be possible to use apt-get (maybe with some porteus suitable modifications) to install new software. I also think for the very long view it has the ...

Re: Problems making a module.

Hi folks, hi andy in the moment I am far away from my computer for some time now, but in the past I had the case that clicking the right mouse button didn't work, when the folder name contained spaces. So Andy maybe you rename the folder without spaces and try again. I would be interested to know, w...

Re: Where are the modules ? Osmo 32/64

Hi yggdrasill
I have made osmo modules for 32 and 64 bit. Which one do you need and how can I get it to You ( I have no dropbox or something like that)?
Myself I think OSMO is very very useful. I use it everyday and store everything in it.

Re: Print and scan module for Porteus 2.1

Hi folks, have some good news to report. @ Ahau, Francois and Wread. My brother HL 2030 works. Francois wrote @payoon: If you want, the ppd for your printer is also provided on openprinting for you brother printer (no need to convert the rpm to xzm module): http://www.openprinting.org/ppd-o-matic.ph...

Re: Feedback and Bug Reports for Porteus v2.1 RC1

A little new development, but it is getting a little weird. I tried manually localhost:631 and got : not found. I typed localhost:631/administrator and the right page opens. I could add my printer HL 2030 (gutenprint) and when I print the LED blinks and the printer seems to act somehow. The only pro...

Re: Feedback and Bug Reports for Porteus v2.1 RC1

Hi Wread, I didn't know how to check that, but googling gave me this command: lp stat -h localhost -r root@porteus:~# lpstat -h localhost -r scheduler is running root@porteus:~# I hope this was the right command, but then it means the daemon is running. The task manger shows me : cupsd -C /etc/cups/...
