Start-up Hang due to unknown background processing

Take haveged from USM or from https://packages.slackonly.com/pub/packages/14.2-x86_64/system/haveged/haveged-1.9.2-x86_64-1_slonly.txz , convert to module, put it in base folder, then add cliexec=haveged~start in boot/syslinux/porteus.cfg APPEND field and reboot for test! Would putting cliexec=have...

Issue in package to module conversion

Without knowing what the error message said I will guess a link or file was missing. Download the missing file and add it to the .xzm file you created. According to: https://github.com/wereturtle/ghostwriter ghostwriter needs Qt5 and ghostwriter has a command named qmake that will tell you if anythi...

Porteus very slow after clean install on

Well, you did say I started Porteus first time with FAT32 format. Everything was very fast. Boot and shut down was super quick. Was that on a USB stick? Journeling filesystems, ext4 and NTFS, were designed for hard drives and don't do well on flash drives even though they have no moving parts. For c...

An interesting description. PACKAGE DESCRIPTION: # haveged (A simple entropy daemon) # # The haveged project is an attempt to provide an easy-to-use, # unpredictable random number generator based upon an adaptation of the # HAVEGE algorithm. Haveged was created to remedy low-entropy # conditions in ...

Porteus very slow after clean install on

With an ext4 filesystem I believe it is a journallng system and Porteus changes are written to it as they occur and browsers create lots of changes as they are used and USB drives are not the fastest. With a FAT32 filesystem changes are written to a porteussave.dat file and with that changes can be ...

Save settings and apps after shut down or reboot

none of this is making any sense :D nope.. any modules in the <usb>/porteus/modules folder are loaded automatically, no extramod= cheatcode is needed. Thanks for clarifying that. I always think of it as for system modules rather than things we users add. 00x modules to fix bugs and add printers etc...

Save settings and apps after shut down or reboot

You are right with ext4 you don't need the changes= cheatcode. I've never tried the Kiosk 5.1.5 system so I don't know how things are added to it. With Porteus though apps like firefox aren't installed. They are downloaded as modules and saved in the /modules folder which is added to the APPEND line...

Save settings and apps after shut down or reboot

Hello Van Auss. Welcome. :) To save changes create a porteussave.dat file (Menu > Administration > Porteus save file manager), put it in your /changes folder, then add it to your boot menu with the changes= cheatcode. APPEND changes=/changes/porteussave.dat Use the file to save setting changes and a...

I had tried -t 50000 also with same results. Have you tried with -t 0 ??? (show notification until clicked). Also, do you have notifications activated? Yes.
