Re: alternate input methods (redux)

fcitx4.04 (fidoslax xzm) works fine with XFCE version (and language-select-tool generated locale), but does not
work with kde and lxde versions, instead, locale and fcitx modules (by applewolf) converted from slax is okay for
these versions. great XFCE !

Re: Porteus-v1.1rc2-i486 ready for testing

@Ahau, I did the experiment following your instructions. Now, V09 boots up V1.1 like a charm, just as it had done on these public PCs. Thanks ! I always use 'always fresh'. since partitions were in FAT32. One minor thing is, every time command "startx" have to be used to start X, and only "root" is ...

Re: Porteus-v1.1rc2-i486 ready for testing

@Ahau, Hamza, and brokenman,
thank you all. I will study your replies and then decide.
In my view, V09 is much better, since it booted all the public computers available for me.
I hope V1.0, V1.1 and 1.x to 2.x, 3x may keep its universality.
thanks !

Re: Porteus-v1.1rc2-i486 ready for testing

@brokenman, yes, I did it, with only 2 correct md5sums (vmlinuz and initrd). very nice desktop. thanks. @Ahau, like in V1.0, grub in this rc2 does not work universally. It stops at a line of messenge on this computer : "syslinux 4.04 CHS 0x4e616eb0 ... Peter Anvin et al" I have functional V09 and .l...

Re: Porteus-v1.1rc2-i486 ready for testing

I downloaded rc2 several times, and md5sum check all said okay; but when run lin_start_here.sh, failed at the md5sum check stage. @Ahau, I tried to fire up V1.0 using V09 syslinux, as you suggested on May 26, but it does not work . lilo works on this computer, but not on other public ones; I hope Po...

Re: Porteus-v1.0-rc2-x86 "So close to the FINAL..."

@Ahau, I solved the GIMP and LibreOffice problems. 'Convert and Activate" all the .sq4.lzm modules and everything became Okay. It works better than the "porteus-module-tools'. Only the folder-name of 'My Document' is not readable with locales, other 3 icons on desktop display correctly. Thanks and R...

Re: Porteus-v1.0-rc2-x86 "So close to the FINAL..."

@Ahau, I chose lilo when I made a new installation, and it works very nicely on all my PCs; so just kept your instructions but do not try it yer. :wink: suggestions or modules needed : 1. I used .sq4.lzm modules GIMP from ahz and LibreOffice from cch; both put their own icon on v09 desktop, but afte...

Re: Porteus-v1.0-rc1-x86 ready for testing

This testing version does not boot up my old computer (mainboard 845, usb1.1, 1.7GHz);
syslinux 4.04 loops inside BIOS, and restart again and again. Remix/porteus09 worked perfectly.
Installation is okay, no error happened, and new notebook was booted without any problem.
Any suggestion ? thanks.

Re: back forward arrows-libiconv problem?

I reinstalled porteus to the same usbkey and found that it is probably the module libiconv makes the faults.
without libiconv, firefox workds, but some other applications need it.

Re: back forward arrows

@brokenman, I use root, only root and 'always fresh'. @karis, I tried it again; first put in 'mudule' folder, then in 'base'; in both cases, I got error message from mazilla--which is a pop-up window, i think you must know. When I tried to restore the original one, system failed, error message occup...
