A simple FYI

Friends, Other than Porteus on a USB stick, "always in my pocket", I use Lubuntu on a desktop. Last Thursday, 10-22-2015, Ubuntu released the 15.10 version of Ubuntu, and of course all the other Ubuntu family followed. I downloaded 4 of them via torrent files, and have let them upload continually fo...

Re: Because it Rocks!

@Ed_P, I apologize everybody, I'm simply missing something here, it's me I'm sure, you know that :-) and I will figure it all out. I have in the past used your suggestion successfuly, many times, Ed, copying the .iso with the "dd" command and then running Porteus-installer-for-Linux.com. Just can't ...

Re: Because it Rocks!

Reporting, after a couple of days working with this Portueus USB duplication "thing" (obviously not a problem :-), and an up and down internet ISP connection :-( First, as I've mentioned here many times, I'm no computer guru, far from it. Life for me with computers has been heavily assisted by peopl...

Re: Because it Rocks!

@donald, I have tried your suggestion. As soon as I booted into "copy2ram" it was apparent that I would be making a "clone" of the default/base product (minus my personal configuration/tweats), I let it finish for sake of appreciating your contribution and assistance. No dis-respect, only high-5's b...

Re: Because it Rocks!

Hello "donald", and others, I'm a bit pressed for time this evening here, have a dinner engagement with family. Your suggestion is next on the list to try. Should I get home with some time later tonight I will, otherwise I shall make the attempt tomorrow morning. I have witnessed your assistance and...

Re: Because it Rocks!

Back in my OS/2 days (1994 - 2004) I had a friend, a smart friend :-), who worked with computers at his work. We became friends through my work, which put me in contact with him daily. He skipped Windoze and went straight to OS/2, and I followed his every move. Eventually in 1997 I bought the identi...

Re: Because it Rocks!

@Ed_P, thanks for replying. I've tried this several times now and the system will boot, but parts are totally unresponsive. @francois, thank you for replying also. Either "make_iso.sh" does not work on my system, or I am just too dumb to use it correctly. I find the instructions of syntax a bit frus...

Re: Because it Rocks!

Hello ncmprhnsbl, Nice to hear from you again also. I remember your contributions here from #!, great stuff! And I remember you helping me with other tasks, not forgotten. As time permits I will be looking into all this information you have supplied along with that of Bogomips. I'd like to have a Po...

Re: Because it Rocks!

Thank you Bogomips,

Suppose I had a working Porteus on a 4 GiB thumb drive, but needed more room/storage space. How could I copy it to a 16 GiB thumb drive?

Again, many thanks for your help here, I've seen you help many others with Porteus. Many thumbs up to you !!!!!

Because it Rocks!

Friends, where can I download the latest stable Porteus 32 bit LXDE .iso? I realize this DE was bypassed in the last 2 Porteus releases, but I'm hoping anyway, that Porteus has retained an LXDE.iso of some sort. As I'm constantly trying to convert folks and friends from Windoze to Linux, I feel this...

Re: First Impressions

@ncmprhnsbl,

Fellow Porteusian, your message has been noted, thank you. I will look into your Openbox directly.

I am in error for not keeping up with Porteus properly. I have much respect for your input as you have given me guidance in the past.

Sincerely,

Sean

Re: First Impressions

@phhpro Thanks for validating my thinking about LXQT and LXDE, really. Others here have said pretty much the same, and since I am a "common Joe", I suppose I just needed some re-validation. It's been about a year since the LXDE/LXQT merge was announced, and I really see no reason to make the move fr...

Re: First Impressions

@Bogomips Your list appears pretty complete. However, since LXQT is not yet at "1.0", and it looks like they are taking their time so as to be there along with (at the same time as) "Ubuntu 16.04 LTS", might we seriously consider an "OpenBox Porteus", and drop the LXQT edition for a period of time t...
