Re: 30 miles from home and off the wall

Hi Porteus Friends, Thanks for the replies here. I fell ill with the flu on Sunday and haven't felt like doing much other than sleep. All your replies are appreciated! My stories are never "short" :-) The computer is a Dell GX280 with a 40 Gigabyte HD, I think the thing is over 12 years old. It is l...

[SOLVED] 30 miles from home and off the wall

Porteus friends, I'm a Porteus user and fan. I ask this here because of the positive attitude, having never experienced otherwise on this, my favorite, preferred Linux and forum. Mom's in a Nursing Home. I visit at least once a week. They have a computer for the residents, but it is Windows, and "no...

Re: The future of Porteus

@ brokenman , Bottom line for me, brokenman, is to have this Live Thumb Drive thing we now call Porteus to continue. Rename, renumber it, if necessary, and do it all with the least amount of resistance, "as easily as possible for the developer(s)." That's what I'm hoping for, the continuence of this...

Re: The future of Porteus

@brokenman,

Might be good to point this threads viewers to your request for input device names:

http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=5199

and I suppose this message does that anyway.

Also, I ditto what Ed_P suggested above, a very considerate idea.

Re: Input device name - please post yours

@aus9

Yep, system's 2 & 3 are old Dell laptops, 3 being a newer Inspiron, the former a Latitude.

I suppose also you'd be looking for any wireless input devices:

keyboards
microphones
combination-microphone/headphones

how about smartphones?

Re: The future of Porteus

@brokenman, Yes, I did say "Bottom line is "Big Money" wins yet again" . That was certainly no admonishment to you personally! All here should appreciate my praise for you and the other developers and contributors, every one of them. I'm extremely paranoid about microsoft and it's gigantic bag of tr...

Re: The future of Porteus

Agreed, I have absolutely no trouble giving credit to the developers, administrators, and maintainers of Porteus. These people, "fanthom, brokenman, and Hamas", along with this years "moderators", besides being wonderful sharing individuals, showing fantastic respect, and patience, even to the most ...

Re: The future of Porteus

Hope this isn't my last 2 cents, Maybe we should call it "LL" for Linux Lost", or "Linux Loses", or maybe just "LinSoft", or "MicroNix", or heck, think of some other name for it. Bottom line is "Big Money" wins yet again because everybody has to be exactly like their peers. What is it now, 8 years o...
