Porteus with zstd compression

Not the extramod= cheatcode? you're right Ed, load= is only for the /optional folder .. i'll fix my post.. No more difference is between Porteus-OPENBOX-v5.0rc1-x86_64.iso and Porteus-OPENBOX-v5.0rc1-zstd-x86_64.iso. thanks neko, that's what i suspected.. which means my ZTREE.zstdm would not be use...

Porteus with zstd compression

here's a module with various files/fixes to enable the majority of GUI filemanager actions specific to .zstdm modules.. stick it in modules(or base) or if you're booting the ISO use cheatcode: extramod=/path/to/folder/where/it/is/ (thanks Ed_P) ZTREE.zstdm module contains: $tree -al ZTREE ├── home │...

Porteus v5.0rc1 problems

I am not sure if it's missing under purpose gtk+3, but I think it was included in Porteus 4.0, I am just noticing that because I am compiling again some packages and I haven't seen that notification before. gtk+3 is there, but the devel module doesn't have the headers(/usr/include/*) needed for com...

Porteus with zstd compression

in what context is it needed to determine the compression used? i mean. it's good to know, that's what the -zstd.xzm tag is for (or .zstd.xzm) and that could be parsed for.. but eg. unsquashfs works out what to do... slax's .sb or puppy's .sfs give no indication of compressor and seem to get by.. i ...

Latest update-firefox script nutty - or is it me?

got me stumped at the moment... can only suggest, you try to use makepkg, or installpkg on something and see what happens.. or see if another update-<browser> works or not.. or try "always fresh" (if you havn't) Overall I *dig* the new script and what it tries to accomplish. Very thoughtful for the ...

Porteus with zstd compression

It's true, agree with you, but when one facilitates an iso as an experiment, I would think both xzm and zstdm scripts should be present for comparison dont you think? absolutely, if zstd is to be incorporated officially, i'd like to see it provided alongside xz, so users can choose for themselves a...

Latest update-firefox script nutty - or is it me?

I'm running the script as root inside the /tmp directory - is that a problem? shouldn't matter where you run it from (fyi update-firefox downloads update-firefox-live which does all the work-see /usr/local/bin) you're using 5.0 rc1? problem seems to be here: xz: (stdin): Cannot allocate memory and ...

Root script at startup

try putting your scripts in /etc/local.d and name them <myscriptname>.start (and be executable)
for example, i have a script that sets the power state for my graphics card, that i have in a module:

Code: Select all

ati-power/ati-pf
└── etc
    └── local.d
        └── atipowerstate.start

Where is /etc/porteus.d

this directory/files should be created at boot, via initrd , using settings from the config directory(on your boot media)
the initrd for nemesis is specific to it.

Porteus with zstd compression

Check again, zactivate calls aufs-zinsert sorry, missed that... but it failed with the "must be .xzm" message .. something else going on.. EDIT: ok.. this line in xactivate: # Insert the module to live filesystem: (changed to) /opt/porteus-scripts/xorg/aufs-zinsert "$1" but as i say above none of t...

Porteus with zstd compression

zactivate needs an edit to aufs-insert to work: @ line 18 (changing .xzm to .zstdm) if [[ $(echo "$BASE" | grep .zstdm) = "" ]]; then echo "$BASE: Module must end with .zstdm" exit 1 fi of course, simply renaming the (zstd)module *.xzm would work too since unsquashfs detects the protocol, whatever i...
