Porteus with zstd compression

:D thanks, that actually clears things up.. if i had thought about it, that's why it's 'loop mounted' and not just 'ordinary mounted' back to "is it(zstd) worth it?" ..seems it's a fairly clear "it depends" ... on user wants and needs(how fast is fast enough, how many things to do at once) on hardwa...

Porteus with zstd compression

Do you guys think it is worth converting to zstd? i'm more of the opinion of having support(kernel,squashfs-tools,scripts) for all of the above (xz, zstd, lz4, even gzip) keep official iso xz for the smallest size, and then the user can convert the base modules to whatever, if they value speed over...

Howto: Popular AppImages one click away

one step missing: make the .Appimage executable.
either by in terminal:

Code: Select all

chmod +x example.appimage
or via filemanager properties>permissions> check executable..
unless the appimage is stored on fat32(maybe ntfs too?), then it's already executable..

Peek seems handy too. Makes easy to show others how to do things (i.e. teaching others to do some black magic for beginners/intermediate users like me)
here ya go: bundle - Peek for Porteus 5.0rc1

2019 Updated Nemesis Base Modules

I thought I could share at least initrd.xz and 000-kernel.xzm from @neko's APORTEUS in NEMESIS any aporteus 000-kernel(and it's matching vmlinuz) should be fine, unaltered. Aporteus and nemesis have the same (live)file structure. the initrd.xz needs to be the nemesis version, to be compatible with ...

2019 Updated Nemesis Base Modules

Booting with provided kernel (5.07) and base_only, freezes for me. Looking for /etc/porteus.d , but still no clue what happened in initrd.xz. it's essential to be using the correct(nemesis) initrd.xz and the config folder(and files) be present for this to work.. Speaking of which, there is somethin...

here's a module with various files/fixes to enable the majority of GUI filemanager actions specific to .zstdm modules.. stick it in modules(or base) or if you're booting the ISO use cheatcode: extramod=/path/to/folder/where/it/is/ (thanks Ed_P) ZTREE.zstdm module contains: $tree -al ZTREE ├── home │...
