searching for porteus, device not ready, porteus data not found

So I'm interested in your advice: for example how to increase the 6s. delay above -- no use in the `delay` cheat code inside porteus-v4.0-x86_64.cfg as it's on the very partition (?) porteus boot is having difficulty finding. Or anything else? The delay can be changed by rebuilding the initrd, whic...

Re: No sound

Try this in a terminal as guest:

pulseaudio -k && pulseaudio -Dv --log-target=newfile:pulse.log

This will restart pulseaudio and send the output to /home/guest/pulse.log.......it may show something when the sound quits. You can increase the verbosity, but I found the above gave lots of info.

Re: Problems posting to Porteus chat...

I'm still getting the same json error, as n0ctilucient say's, it doesn't happen on thread pages. I get the error roughly every 10 seconds, when the mchat updater kicks in.

Problems posting to Porteus chat...

I use NoScript with Palemoon, if I block porteus.org, I don't get the error. I would think that probably some script being run by the forum software is causing the errors.

edit:
Actually, it seems to be the updater causing the error that I get.

Problems posting to Porteus chat...

I get an error with Palemoon, keeps repeating making reading chat pretty much impossible.

What is the 'from=' cheatcode for frugal install.

You might try (hd1,0)

With /dev/sda, it would be (hd0,0), you're using /dev/sdb

roadie, do you use grub or grub2?
Please, look at this post grub2 menu entry (Пост Blaze #59969)
I've been using Grub 2 for the last 2-3 years, though I never use update-grub....things get messy with it. When the bootloader is working, I don't play with it, learned my lessons in that.

Why grub? is this a customized mate?

You may disregard, turns out it is customized to the extent of changing kernels to 4.15.2.....the stock kernel is working fine.

runit as init with Porteus

You can check ruinit out at http://www.smarden.org/runit which also has links to methods for various distros including Slackware. Porteus is a bit different because of the live system and needs tweaking to get going. But Void linux would show you the layout and how things work, better than I can ex...

runit as init with Porteus

Any tests of BSD-style startup scripts Vs Runit? I've never tried BSD, so don't know how it's set up. As far as startup, I found little difference between Porteus SysVinit and runit, Porteus startup times are hard to improve on. I have noticed a difference in times to get from a login prompt to the...

runit as init with Porteus

And, I'm thinking this is completely off topic for this thread. no it is not. now that I moved the posts. :D There ya go, that's fixed. As to changing inits in Porteus, I found the easiest way was to unpack 001-core.xzm and install the needed files, then repack. I've also chrooted into the unpacked...

Porteus-v4.0rc4 bug reports

And you combined that with Port? How? Did you hack the initrd? Yes, it replaces the Porteus init and I found after a few attempts that hacking the initrd is not necessary. Though it's not terribly complex to convert to runit, when compared to the stock Porteus init, runit really offers little apart...

low on RAM PCs / alternatives to Porteus

I really don't see problems with using current Porteus on what are now considered low spec machines. Of course your needs dictate the specs required, but for everyday browsing, email, building xzm's, these old dinosaurs still work fine for me. Tasks like gaming and rendering animations will shut the...
