Re: Easy way to get kernel config and modules

Thanks, I can't remember :( My ubuntu install just corrupted (and the backup was corrupted, I didn't realise). So I'm back to my trusty porteus install which is missing some modules, but has the main ones. It was mainly low end server hardware, the Intel c204 and c600 chipsets, some different networ...

Easy way to get kernel config and modules

Hi, I've been having trouble on porteus with a few machines and ended up putting ubuntu server on them and going from there. The issue is mainly with drivers and kernel config. I can't find the right drivers on porteus, or they just aren't quite working right, etc, whereas on ubuntu it all just seem...

Re: Shutdown process timeout

Sorry. I think I jumped the gun a bit. I had a script to save my vms on shutdown and it had a timeout of 30 seconds set :( Thanks, your response helped, it made me look in a different place for where the issue was.

Shutdown process timeout

Hi, I have a VM running in porteus and I'd like it to save state on shutdown. The problem is that sometimes it takes longer than 30 seconds to save state, and porteus kills the process before it is able to finish saving. I had a hunt around, but I can't find where the timeout between the term and si...

Re: Compiling Custom Kernel

Thanks!.. What awesome support :) It did the trick. I haven't compiled a kernel for a few years, so I'm not up with the latest.

Re: Compiling Custom Kernel

So, I checked and it is finding the hdd, partitions sda1 and sda2 are detected, I can see it at boot. Before it can't find the porteus signature file I get the line: mount: mounting none on /dev failed: No such device So anything I am missing in my kernel config that would be causing this? I guess I...

Compiling Custom Kernel

Hi, I'm trying to compile a custom kernel using the Ubuntu Raring sources. Why? Long story short. I want to use ZFS with Porteus. But in all versions since 1.0 it doesn't work correctly. I get strange write buffering issues which basically hangs the system for up to a minute or two if you do a largi...

How to Install PHP?

I've been using porteus for a while. But I still feel like a newbie in some regards :). How do I get php to work?. I can't seem to get all the dependencies. Keep getting missing shared libs. It is quite painful trying to find them from different sources and install them. Even then I can't get it rig...

Installing Porteus to HDD not working? Porteus 2.0 x64

Porteus 2.0 64 bit In a VM I boot off ISO to KDE, go through the install wizard, create a partition and format to EXT3. Install and select the bootable option. When I reboot the machine it either hangs and does nothing or says no bootable medium found. Also tried running the install script directly ...

Re: Porteus file system memory shows up as cache memory?

Hi, Thanks for the reply! Sorry, I Should have said I'm running in always fresh mode, so I guess that means not with the changes= cheatcode. So it is normal behaviour for file system space in this instance showing up as "cached" memory, even though it isn't actually a cache? total used free shared b...

Porteus file system memory shows up as cache memory?

Hi, I'm just trying to figure out a memory usage issue I'm having. It seems writing to the file system (aufs?) shows up as "cached" memory in top. It is confusing because cached memory is usually freed as needed, but this cannot be freed on demand? So the result is I'm unable to tell how much actual...

Re: VirtualBox VNC

Hi, Thanks for your help. I've cut the module size right down and combined it, taken the init script from the porteus virtualbox module and made an addition to it to make /usr not world writable (I'm not sure, but this may be world writable because I have files in /usr in my rootcopy which is on a f...

Re: VirtualBox VNC

Hi, I installed the compat32 libs, and also multilibs from here: http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/multilib/13.37/ (Which is probably where I messed it up!). Getting internet compiler error somewhere in the compilation and it bombs out. kmk: *** [/tmp/SBo/VirtualBox-4.1.8_OSE/out/linux.amd64/releas...
