Re: Porteus 3.1rc feedback

@fanthom I know there will be a UEFI directory (but only in 64bit version). For the people, who do not have or do not want a UEFI booting, this directory can simply be deleted. At least there will be one directory less. For the people who also storage data on a Porteus USB stick, it is really a mix-...

Re: Porteus 3.1rc feedback

Hi! In the Wishlist for porteus 3.1 I have suggested to move the /boot directory under the /porteus directory, but it doesn't happen until RC2, so I did days of research and found the solution. I post the steps and patches here. Please add it to the comming Porteus 3.1. After the /boot directory is ...

Re: Wishlist for porteus 3.1

@ dafan Or maybe better is to move porteus to boot directory. Boot is more "universal" than porteus. Hello tome, I think /porteus is better than /boot. Porteus should not so universal but personalized. E.g. if I see the /porteus directory I can immediatly know it is Porteus, but if I see the /boot ...

Re: Wishlist for porteus 3.1

I would like to move the boot subdirectory under the porteus subdirectory, so that only one subdirectory under the root directory of ISO/USB is needed.

How to change the location of syslinux.cfg?

Hello, I am trying to move the /boot directory under the /portues directory in a ISO file or USB stick. I have changed all the paths in makeiso.sh, syslinux.cfg and porteus.cfg. Now if I put syslinux.cfg under /boot/syslinux and all other files under /porteus/boot/syslinux, Porteus can boot. But if ...

Re: Porteus 1.1 doesn't call dbus-launch properly

If you didn't add dbus-launch in /etc/xprofile, this dbus-launch was probably started by firefox. I have noticed that firefox will start such a process if it doesn't found a dbus-launch process as it starts. Some programs may start dbus-launch automatically, just like firefox, while other programs t...

Porteus 1.1 doesn't call dbus-launch properly

The 32-bit Porteus 1.1 doesn't call dbus-launch when a user logged in, so some programs (e.g. fcitx) can not make a connection to the dbus daemon. If I add eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session` in /etc/xprofile (which is called by /etc/kde/kdm/Xsession), everything will be OK. The 64-bi...

Re: Bash doesn't wrap long command lines with certern TERMs

@fanthom You are right. Bash in screen doesn't wrap lines only if TERM is screen-256color. If TERM is screen, everything is OK. @bigbass The problem has nothing to do with bash, but thanks anyway. Finally, I am glad to say that I have found the solution! It is because of file /etc/termcap. It...

Re: Bash doesn't wrap long command lines with certern TERMs

Really? Are you sure that you have set TERM to xterm in screen?

In my Porteus-v09 the background can not be drawed in screen if TERM is xterm. There was no .screenrc file as I tested.

Btw. the ncurses Problem also appers in my openSUSE mashine, both in screen and in tmux.

Re: Bash doesn't wrap long command lines with certern TERMs

The 256 color is not the main problem. The problem is that bash will not wrap lines if TERM is set to "screen" which must be done in GNU screen or tmux. If TERM is set to xterm in tmux or GNU screen, some ncurses software will not be drawed properly. You can download tmux and libevent from http://tm...

Re: Bash doesn't wrap long command lines with certern TERMs

Hello fanthom

It doesn't seem to be a PS1 issue. It is the same if I set PS1 to what you wrote. It is the same even if I simply set PS1 to '$'.

[Solved] Bash doesn't wrap command lines with certern TERMs

If a command line is longer than the width of the terminal screen, bash should wrap the command and let the user input in the next line. It is also what bash does if the TERM environment variable is xterm. But if TERM is set to xterm-256color, bash will not be able to wrap long command lines. It wil...
