Re: A complete kernel-firmware package

Oh, and I was using Porteus 1.2 for all this. Looking forward to 2.0, though!

Re: A complete kernel-firmware package

Just a couple of quick notes on some recent testing I was doing... Using Slackware 14.0's kernel-firmware-20120804git-noarch-1 package (and grabbing it with the Porteus Package Manager), I was able to utilize all the Broadcom NICs I could lay my hands on; that was not (at all) the case with the pre-...

Re: A complete kernel-firmware package

@fanthom Lifesaver! Yeah, that package solved the issue. It was a lack of firmware. Entirely. I think the problem the last time I posted about a similar issue, http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=1037 , must've actually been due to firmware, not the tg3 driver itself. (And you mentioned in...

A complete kernel-firmware package

Today I was disappointed to be unable to boot porteus on a Dell blade server; the problem was that the bnx2 driver did not recognize the old Broadcom NICs within the blade. I tried to compile a new driver using Broadcoms sources, but it would not compile even though I downloaded the kernel source mo...

Problem with tg3 driver for Broadcom Ethernet cards

I was consistently crashing when trying to boot on a BCM9 5704 A6 network card with 32-bit Porteus 1.1. I tried the 3.2.4 kernel and had the same issue. Finally, I grabbed the tg3 firmware from Broadcom: http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php . After compiling that driver,...

Re: Porteus Boot Order

Thanks! :-) Mostly, I was using it as a way to modify other start-up files in /etc/rc.d before the later boot-levels started. Perhaps it would make more sense to simply create new versions of the script and let a new module (or rootcopy) overwrite the script, but in many cases I was applying a sourc...

Re: Porteus Boot Order

Is there any way the following could be added back to the /etc/rc.d/rc.S file? # Run SystemV init scripts. [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.sysvinit ] && . /etc/rc.d/rc.sysvinit One way I've used Slax in the past is to develop some relatively easy-to-maintain, home-grown Linux appliances at my workplace. I had sup...
