irc chat for porteus #porteuslinux on freenode
Oh, missed this one... Actually IRC is a properly defined protocol. Any client understanding/talking such protocol would be of course preferred... One could think a client the equivalent of a ´app´. Advertising the existence of a IRC channel is a recommendable initiative. Thanks @ncmprhnsbl for the ...

setting hostname breaks X login in porteus4.0
A missing hostname binary prevents the system initialization scripts to ´properly set hostname´ for the system during the init phase. Proof? All the /var/log/* logs still are reporting ´porteus´ as their reporting hostname, even after /etc/HOSTNAME and /etc/hosts have been altered with a ´host-X´ ar...

When you login through a display manager,a MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 authentication cookie is created and written into your ~/.Xauthority file. guest@porteus:~$ xauth list porteus/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 5e348ef69a99cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx If you change the host name, the X11 client library will no longer fin...

Question: what is the rationale behind automounting swap/solaris, type 82 partition
problem seems related to having /etc/fstab being ´recreated on the fly´
one cannot edit /etc/fstab (according to /etc/fstab itself)

Question: what is the rationale behind automounting swap/solaris, type 82 partition
Hello, I'm still new to Porteus, could not think of a better place to ask. QUESTION: Why ANY existing partitions on ANY existing devices marked as ´type 82´ should be automagically considered for automounting (normal boot, graphical, possibly also other boots). In graphical boot: a) I fail to see a ...

Android device connection via USB
I was interested in this topic, I'd like to ask also if anyone with an android phone could please plug it and tell what happens on your Porteus 4.0? compile source bits, not necessarily the kernel, requires toolchain... which one?
Ok. Will investigate what that means, ncmprhnsbl , . I will say this against my own interest to discuss further, since this was something of a ´new to porteus´ issue. For every question, expect an answer that will spawn a new question This can be considered as ´closed/solved' from a strict ´topic´ p...
