For frugal install, grub2 is really the way to go. Please point to that post where you described the way to install it on porteus.

Be sure to select 64bit and the UEFI enabled.
Porteus iso comes standard with UEFI enabled. So why is it necessary to mention it? Thus any installation will then boot? (uefi or not)
I have the impression that I miss something here. :(
