Porteus 5.1.0 remote server managment/config bug ?

Hello Idy, Remote management code was not updated between 5.0.0 and 5.1.0 releases. I'm sure its your kiosk configuration fault - perhaps you made a typo when providing the server IP/domain/port? Maybe your firewall/proxy plays a role here? Hard to guess but its definitely something on your side. Pl...

please advise.. new tabs opening, no way to go back..

Hello aaamoeder,

You could use Firefox and our 'onscreen buttons':
https://porteus-kiosk.org/parameters.ht ... en_buttons

Mind that Firefox does not support touch scrolling by default (custom build with libinput is needed to have the touch events working).

Thanks

[not4n00bs] a secure userland...

OK - clear.

Any chance you could share your derivative in the "Porteus Derivatives" section of the forum?
This way the users (including myself) could try it and see the benefits it brings.

Thanks

[not4n00bs] a secure userland...

Musl will never be accepted in Slackware and Porteus for the reasons i have explained above (incompatibly with other software). If you are trying to convince us that its better for this project than glibc then I can assure you it wont happen. What is your goal by posting here? Do you seek help with ...

[not4n00bs] a secure userland...

Hello fu11m00nremix, I guess Porteus Desktop (and Kiosk as well) will never switch to the musl library. Desktop oriented linux (as the name implies) is tailored to a casual users. Casual users care about the software availability in the first place. Casual users are not interested in hardened setups...

screen_rotate - no effect after burning ISO

Hello stackerlee,

"Don't know why some parameters stick and some don't when burning to another device."
First time i hear about such case.

I believe you did something wrong or kiosk is booting from another storage (probably the hard drive) and not your USB stick.

Glad its solved.

Version 5.0.0 - Issue with freezing

Hello Max_Power,

1) Please setup full persistence for logs:

Code: Select all

persistence=/var/log
2) recreate the freeze (2 or 3 times would be better)

3) send /var/log/messages to support@porteus-kiosk.org for investigation.

Thanks

Bootable USB ISO will not boot on Thinkpad E14

Hello tsbc, "I'm starting to think that it has something to do with the Thinkpad E14 being the new 4000 Series Ryzen 5 chipset, and that I'll need assistance with a paid custom build." I believe that you will need a custom build with newer kernel to get this hardware to work with kiosk. Please conta...

TOTAL NEWBIE Limited Tech with Linux - wanting to remove Porteus

Hello DowntownBike,

Are your sure this PC meets Windows 10 hardware requirements?
I think EFI firmware is required for Windows to work. Do you have it on your PC or only BIOS?

You may better as Microsoft support as i have no clue how to instrall this system (do not use it).

Thanks

protect against keyloggers

Hello smedebol, You could use virtual keyboard to mitigate some keyloggers: https://askleo.com/will_using_an_on_screen_keyboard_stop_keyboard_loggers_and_hackers/ Another techniques would be to setup 2-Step Verification for your online services, etc: https://enterprise.comodo.com/how-to-prevent-keyl...

Allow All chrome extensions possible

Hello Dirk,

You could use this parameter to remove Chrome's extension blocklist policy from the kiosk:

Code: Select all

run_command=sed -i '/ExtensionInstallBlacklist/d' $json

Upload wallpaper using https site?

Hello bbowlsbey,

Kiosk should download files from https websites without problems, unless there is some weird redirection which 'wget' utility cants handle.

Please provide an URL to your wallpaper and i'll investigate this.

Thank you.
