My Mate build Porteus Base files

I always build in always fresh mode. I generally build from a very minimal desktop such as lxde or xfce. This ensures I only add what is needed at compile time. If you are building mate then I would build it from a mate desktop. Cinnamon from a cinnamon desktop etc.

My Mate build Porteus Base files

While you CAN build from a full slackware install I usually compile from porteus with the 05_devel module activated.

Question about Official Porteus Installation Guide

Can we assume that you now have installed successfully and start a new thread for Thunar?

Just follow my instructions to the letter and it will work. I used fdisk to delete the existing partitions and create new ones, then formatted the drives from the terminal using mkfs.vfat and mkfs.ext4

Question about Official Porteus Installation Guide

Ok let's start from the beginning with a factory USB drive and standard Porteus-v4.0 ISO. No need to run any install scripts. No need to set any boot flags. This is all for older BIOS systems and we want to make an EFI system right? 1) Format the USB drive with: a) an sdb1 of type EFI (in fdisk this...

Porteus Shell Script Repo?

My "vision" is, that the community is the "control", not a single person. I've been doing this for quite a few years now. I have experience with this and also I run three other companies in the real world. I can tell you that we have already tried this model. It simply doesn't work. Without an over...

I am aware that ads can be annoying. Ads are never fun but consider this:

Porteus hosting = US$60 per month
User donations = US$ 0-8 per month

If ads can merely pay for hosting services then I would be happy. There are other costs too.

Add reboot to porteus.cfg

Thanks Ed_P. This is a bug caused by a missing syslinux file. I will add it to the syslinux folder.

The process group using your memory is Xorg. This is the thing that allows you to have windows and boxes with buttons and other stuff. Logically, this is the thing using most of your memory. The other option is to boot without a graphical session and work from command line. Sure, you can make things...

sudoers.d Not Working

Ok. Use the above command as root to change the file permissions then save the file into your rootcopy folder to overwrite all other layers. cp -a --parents /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness /mnt/sdXy/porteus/rootcopy After that guest should be able to write to the file without nee...

sudoers.d Not Working

nope, it's about 13 million
Wow, That's about the brightness of a star!

So just change the file permissions if you want guest to write to it.

Code: Select all

chmod 666 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
Or just use the keyboard to change brightness. That doesn't chew.

sudoers.d Not Working

If you want sudo to run any command as guest without requiring a password (which I dont recommend) you can add this to your sudoers file. guest ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL So from a root console: Type: visudo Hit insert key paste above at last line in using SHIFT + INSERT Hit escape key Type: \:x (don't...

Yes that is its job, but does it work once you enter the password? If so then we can move to the sudo without password problem.
