VirtualBox - Error on both v4 & v5

That's because you probably kept the same kernel. Vbox module is created for a given kernel version, and respecting that it should work on different Porteus versions (there's a limit of how far you can go, of course :P).

Porteus Kernel Builder

@neko, thanks!

I'll try it later. Have you tried? I'm curious to see if we can improve Porteus performance :)

Porteus Kernel Builder

Not sure if I already asked this, but according to Phoronix , Clear Linux boots in 1.5 seconds while Ubuntu boots in 15.9 seconds. So I wonder if we can change kernel compilation flags easilly using neko's kernel builder tool. The flags Clear Linux uses to build its kernel are: CFLAGS="-g -O3 -felim...

VirtualBox - Error on both v4 & v5

Have you tried in Always Fresh mode?

One limitation that Porteus has is that if you put /opt folder in your rootcopy (or even a module that includes /opt with wrong permissions) some programs will refuse to work, and Vbox is one of them.

VirtualBox - Error on both v4 & v5

That's odd. I did the same and it works for me. You don't need to execute it as root.

Well, try this one (assuming that you're using Porteus x64) and let me know if it works for you:

VirtualBox - Error on both v4 & v5

@sonny, we need some information. First execute this in the terminal:

Code: Select all

uname -r
And let us know the output.

Then tell us how did you build this vbox module.

Xfce 4.16 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Yeah, 4.12 is definitely faster. But I found out that on 4.16 disabling vsync in the compositor (and keeping it enabled on the driver) makes the experience much better -- especially after another bug that was fixed related to performance! Do you know how to enable vsync on AMD's driver? If so, I can...

Xfce 4.16 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Apparently it's caused by a bug in the AMD graphics driver and in my case was much more pronounced. The fix that works for me is the following in a terminal. xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode -t string -s "glx" --create Take a look at this changelog :) +- Do not prefer Xpresent on AMD/R...
