Kodi Krypton

I am in possession of kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm; if that is what you modified and you can describe the process so that a relative Linux ignoramus can follow, I can try to reproduce your work. I´ĺl post the x86-64 and x86 modules in the modules section with reference to this thread (and with prop...

Kodi Krypton

Donald, how about an updated kodi module for Porteus 4.0 x86? I attempted to follow the procedure you outlined above starting with kodi-17.1-i486-bundle-don.xzm (which wouldn´t run under 4.0), but I´m not sure which of the sublibraries (of avahi, e.g.) I should choose to download and include; worse,...

Display settings reset upon resuming

1. I uncheck the box labelled "Use this display" in the Display utility under Settings; my external monitor is shown as my primary display. 2. VGA 3. sleep Porteus resets the display properties upon resuming (from sleep -- don't know about hibernation) -- "Use this display" is checked. The settings ...

Display settings reset upon resuming

I had no response when I posted this under Porteus 4.0 bug reports, so Iĺl try here. My Porteus 4.0 x86-64 XFCE frugal installation to hd on my old Toshiba Satellite always resets my display preferences to use the laptop's own display when it resumes from suspend -- I use an external display and hav...

Driver for old GPU

I couldn't download a couple of those; of the rest, most reverted to VESA graphics because of version mismatch between the modules and X Server, one reverted to VESA graphics because it couldn't load a driver.so file, and the rest failed with the characteristic lagging and failure to draw GUI elemen...

Driver for old GPU

One by one? Thanks for assembling the list. I am unclear as to the nature of the differences among different distributions and the single post I cited above is the only reference I can recall seeing to anyone getting any Linux with a GUI to work with the S3 ProSavage DDR, so old Ubuntu drivers seem ...

Driver for old GPU

I booted with openbox substituted for xfce; no substantive difference, although a couple of icons in the notification area displayed. I installed Porteus to hd in VESA mode, made a script to save dmesg; Xorg.0.log; and the result of lspci -v on flash drive, and used the Porteus Settings Center to ma...

run script in Porteus 4.0 Xfce

Donald, your solution seems rather involved; a utility to automate the procedure would be nice. What is required to do this for the root account? It would also be nice if Thunar could be made to offer script execution from the right-click menu (as opposed to becoming the default action for double-cl...

I can substitute Openbox for XFCE, but that's not going to have any effect on the operation of xorg. There is no problem with the desktop environment, just the video driver.

Driver for old GPU

It behaves the same way as Porteus always has on this machine when VESA is not invoked: about thirty seconds after "startx", the graphical cursor appears on a black background; its motion lags the mouse by about two seconds. A minute later, a light gray bar appears at the top -- what should be the m...

It boots to the Porteus boot screen; when I select "Always Fresh", it gives the expected message about only finding an i686 CPU.

Porteus-v4.0 bug reports

This may be a bug unrelated to Porteus 4.0, but I notice that my Porteus 4.0 x86-64 XFCE frugal installation to hd on my old Toshiba Satellite constantly resets my display preferences to use the laptop's own display when it resumes from suspend -- I use an external display and have set the display p...
