Porteus attempts to unmount partition
I installed latest stable version (1.1) and it has a beautiful desktop and works very smoothly. However, I had some problems with partition mounting. I used 'noauto' cheatcode on kernel line to prevent automatic mounting of all partitions. Then I selected a partition (say abcd) which mounted very we...

Some basic questions please
I used porteus earlier but had to discontinue it due to some reasons. I want to use it again. Could someone please answer following simple questions for me: 1. Which version should I use now (I need a stable distro) 2. Can I start porteus in a user mode (not root) and how to do it if it is not defau...

Re: USB frugal install problem
Ok. I will try these steps and let you know. Posted after 34 minutes 15 seconds: To check the need for partition format etc I put slax on the pendrive. It gives the same error messages (partition not being Microsoft compatible...) from kernel and initrd. But then (instead of screen going blank at th...

Re: mouse buttons not working on netbook
On my netbook (HPmini):
bare, imps and exps work all right;
raw and base report "invalid argument".
Mousepad scrolling with 2 finger does not work with any of these (it works in win7). Edge scrolling (right side or bottom) does not work either (it also does'nt work with win7).

Re: Any way to avoid initial password dialog box
@hamza: "toroot" cheatcode takes you to the password dialog box with root already mentioned in user name. Is it possible for system to boot fully straight to desktop without asking for any password (like it was in slax) ?
@lo-n-behold: please elaborate on your "yes".

Thanks. I will try these steps.

Ksnapshot works all right after removing modules. I had earlier transferred all modules from slax and converted them in one go to xzm by "lzm2xzm ." ; I will have to add modules few at a time probably.

I strongly agree with you that users need an area to post their problems with porteus. Otherwise they will keep posting on other, more technical, parts of forum.

It is 32 bit version.

Even after formatting the usb pendrive from windows, same problem is persisting. I think I saw a similar post on this forum earlier but I am not able to find it now.

Re: USB frugal install problem
Nomodeset cheatcode had no effect. At boot, there are 2 warnings: "unrecognized partition table - please rebuild using Microsoft compatible FDISK (err=4) (kernel ....)" and same warning with "(initrd ...)" after 2nd warning. Then the screen goes blank. It is porteus V1RC1, which is working on 2 othe...

Re: USB frugal install problem
Sorry , it is not an installation method. I posted this here because it fits what is written on the Board Index: Installation methods (HD, usb sticks, card readers, etc...) Here you can post about non standard installation methods and problems with it. Note the "non standard" Choose a good subject:...
