Mac problems

I just download the new 3.1 today to start trying it out and have run into a few problems. 1. Does porteus come with the hfsplus filesystem drivers anymore? I can't mount hfsplus (Mac drives) anymore. I was able to do this in 3.0.1rc1 just fine 2. None of the keyboards work on the three Macbooks I b...

Re: How to upgrade to UEFI Secure Boot

A quick note if you want the USB stick to be viewable by Windows, Mac, and Linux you need to make set your partition type to Microsft Basic Data (0700). This way you can still use the USB stick in any computer when you are not booting from it. Also this makes the above steps work to boot a Mac compu...

Re: How to upgrade to UEFI Secure Boot

Sure, this is how I solved it (a more detailed version of this can be found at http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/secureboot.html#shim just don't run the efibootmgr step) You will need the following 1. Porteus-3.1 (I used the LXQt iso just cause) 2. rEFInd boot loader binary zip file from http://www.ro...

Also I have a new item to add to the list of things that I don't like about Microsoft. :wall: I now have a porteus USB boot stick that boots my Windows 8 laptop with no change to...

Re: Porteus 3.1rc1 feedback

Testing RC1 on some of my Macs here and I have a small problem. It seems that the default wallpapr for KDE4 doesn't always load. The file is there at /usr/share/wallpapers/black.jpg. I can go through the KDE desktop configuration settings and set it and it will show up but it will not come up when t...

Re: EFI Boot Macbook Air 3,1 using Porteus 3.0.1 64-bit

Both of those seem to work. I did switch to the KDE desktop since that seemed like the default option for the 3.1 RC1. So it boots into 3.1 RC1 on a USB with no extra NVidia driver needed. :Yahoo!: Thanks for the help Update: I did some more testing and it appears that only the RC1 build works. It s...

Re: Installation failure on iMac Mini (Macmini 1.1)

If you are trying to use the Mac's boot loader (EFI thing) it will only boot from a blessed internal drive that is formated to HFSPlus. If one of those doesn't exist then it gives up. I would think you would need to install rEFInd on the boot drive you created for the porteus install and everytime y...

Re: EFI Boot Macbook Air 3,1 using Porteus 3.0.1 64-bit

@fanthom Hope the links are right. Here is the psinfo from booting into text mode. Then the Xorg log files after trying to run startX. The first Xorg is before activating the Nvidia xzm and the second one is after. http://pastebin.com/tK9Xi2Yh psinfo paste http://pastebin.com/fNXqezrU Startx without...

Re: EFI Boot Macbook Air 3,1 using Porteus 3.0.1 64-bit

Hey Francois, I have attempted putting the driver in the modules folder and it still stalls at a blank screen on boot up. It seems when the driver xzm is loaded it will not boot. If i remove the driver xzm from being loaded on boot up it seems to work, but X is unalbe to start witht the standard dri...

Re: How to upgrade to UEFI Secure Boot

brokenman wrote: I can do a write up on how to get secure boot working with Porteus as I have it working here. It will require being able to boot into a working Porteus version first.
I would like to see this write up about getting Porteus working on a UEFI with secure boot on.

Thanks

EFI Boot Macbook Air 3,1 using Porteus 3.0.1 64-bit [SOLVED]

I have a Mac that I would like to run Porteus on. It is a Macbook Air 3,1 (currently running OS X 10.9.5). I can't seem to get Porteus 3.0.1 to boot on it. I have following the info at http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=2212 to build a USB drive that will boot the Macbook (great help on t...
